In a letter dated April 20, Dels. Susan McComas, Rick Impallaria and Pat McDonough have formally requested that Dels. J.B. Jennings and Wayne Norman step down from their largely ceremonial positions as chair and vice-chair of the Harford County delegation to the Maryland General Assembly in Annapolis.

In the letter, which is jointly signed by McComas and Impallaria – the former delegation chair and vice-chair – as well as McDonough, the trio accuses the Jennings/Norman failed leadership team of creating a hostile environment, leading the delegation into a legislative missteps, and being “easily manipulated by outside forces.”

The letter also provided an explanation for the school board’s latest decision to stick with Campus Hills Elementary, despite a compromise of sorts that had been reached with County Executive David Craig and the Harford County Council to proceed with Red Pump.

County Executive to Offer Budget Amendment For Red Pump Elementary School

Harford County Executive David Craig said today that he will send the Harford County Council an amendment to his proposed FY10 capital budget to add funding in the “12 – 13 million dollar range” for the planned school at Red Pump Elementary.

Craig’s budget already contains a similar request for Campus Hills, although Craig said he expected that the council would essentially shift funds from Campus Hills to Red Pump and in dollar terms, “it will be a wash.” Craig said the exact terms of the amendment would be known next week.

Despite the actions he anticipated from the council, Craig said “I don’t think either school solves the problem. I think you need both schools.” Craig said he made the decision to keep both schools in his budget proposal after a private meeting with PTA leaders who told him on Tuesday that they wanted a school to move forward. ...Continue Reading

tothianNow I feel much safer walking the streets of our major (and minor) cities now that I know there are costumed vigilantes looking out for us. After hearing about the website on the Ed Norris Show this morning, I decided to check out the World Superhero Registry.

Who’s your favorite?

Mine has to be Tothian (as seen in the picture to the right). After all, he lists Osama bin Laden as one of his arch enemies. In fact, he’s the only one of the “active” superheroes listed in the registry with the guts enough to pick an arch enemy. Hopefully the President is aware of Tothian’s abilities so we can finally capture OBL.

From the HCC sports desk:

The Tribune (11-4) saw itself with a minute-long extra-man opportunity, which the Owls would successfully kill, but Nate Delone would fire one past Harford freshman goalie Bryan Burrill (Forest Hill, Md./C. Harford Men’s Tennis Edges Rockville, 5-4, to Claim Region XX Championship

From the HCC sports desk:

BEL AIR, Md.—The Harford men’s tennis team avenged a 9-0 regular-season beating as it edged a truncated Montgomery College-Rockville squad, 5-4, to claim the Division III Region XX Championship title on Friday at Harford Tennis Courts.

The Fighting Owls (5-4) and the Knights are the only two Division III teams in the region, causing the championship to be decided by a standard dual match, rather than a multi-team tournament format.

Harford held a 2-0 advantage over the Knights from the start, as Rockville was short a few players and could not fill the field for the No. 3 doubles or No. 6 singles matches, resulting in default wins for the team of freshman Steve Heagy (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and sophomore Brian McKeldin (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and for freshman Ben Wade (Joppatowne, Md./Joppatowne).

Freshman Josh Meier (Belcamp, Md./Home School) was the only double-winner for the Owls as he ...Continue Reading
