Working for the Colts, and Ernie Acorsi and “Dixie” Walker, I was afforded the chance to be ever so close to the team of greats as they played home games inside the world’s ‘largest insane asylum’….

Patrick McGrady, candidate for State Delegate in District 34A, held a campaign kick-off BBQ fundraiser this past Sunday, September 27th. More than 100 people attended the event at the historic Susquehanna Museum at the Lock House in Havre de Grace.
Mr. McGrady spoke about recent tax increases in Maryland, including a 20% increase in sales taxes and an 18% increase in the corporate tax.
He pledged never to vote for tax increases when in Annapolis. Knowing that Harford County has the third highest property tax rate in the state of Maryland, McGrady also pledged to seek internal changes to fix the Property Tax Assessment system in Maryland.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office has revealed that the results of its independent investigation found insufficient evidence to substantiate the misconduct and civil right violations alleged against members of the Aberdeen Police Department.
The violations, which allegedly included excessive force and false arrest, were brought forth against Aberdeen police officers by the local chapter of the NAACP following a February incident at the Boys and Girls Club.

Pharmacist Thomas Patrick Evans of Fallston was appointed today to the Harford County Board of Education by Gov. Martin O’Malley.
Evans, who will fill the vacancy created when Pat Hess resigned, has previously served as the pharmacist representative member of the State Advisory Council on Medical Privacy and Confidentiality. He is married to Carolyn Evans, an attorney/partner with the Bel Air law firm of Sengstacke & Evans.
Evans’ term expires in June 2011 and his position is one of the seats being converted to an elected position (District B/Fallston) in the 2010 elections.

BEL AIR, Md.—The Harford women’s tennis team is on track to repeat its feat from one year ago, when it posted a perfect, 10-0 season. After opening the 2009 season with an 8-1 win at Hagerstown on September 14, the Fighting Owls (4-0, 2-0 MDJUCO) notched three more dual match victories in the last two weeks, in addition to claiming the Harford Invitational and Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional Championship titles.
Harford extended its unbeaten streak to 14 straight matches over the course of two years as it notched a 9-0 victory against Mercer at home on September 18, a 9-0 win at Montgomery College-Rockville on September 22 and an 8-1 decision at Mercer on September 24. So here’s the big announcement we teased last week: The Dagger will host and moderate Aberdeen’s Meet the Candidates Forum, scheduled for Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at American Legion Post 128 in Aberdeen.
Also, the forum will be streamed LIVE exclusively on www.daggerpress.com.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and the forum will begin at 7 p.m. Questions will concern issues facing Aberdeen, and candidates’ answers will be limited to 90 to 120 seconds. Click on the e-mail link below to send your question to us for consideration.

(Bel Air, MD) – - Harford County Executive David R. Craig was among several local and state elected officials that participated in the ShopRite “Help Bag Hunger” event at Klein’s ShopRite in the Festival in Bel Air on September 23. The county executive helped bag groceries to raise money and awareness of the issue of hunger in Harford County.
Throughout the day, various elected officials, including County Executive Craig, helped bag groceries to assist cashiers who were collecting donations for the ShopRite Partners In Caring Fund. Last year, locally ShopRite donated $70,000 to the Maryland Food Bank.
