From the HCC sports desk:
FREDERICK, Md.—Freshman Beth Lambros (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) recorded a hat trick for the second consecutive game as the Harford women’s soccer team routed Frederick, 9-1, on Tuesday at Frederick Community College.
The Fighting Owls (7-1, 4-0 MDJUCO) scored nine goals for the second straight game and have already eclipsed their 2008 total of 38 goals, as they have scored 40 goals through eight games and still have nine games left in the regular season.
Allison Stone scored the lone goal for the Cougars (3-4, 0-4 MDJUCO), while Becca Bowers and Katie Thomas combined for 17 saves on the day.
Harford wasted no time as redshirt freshman Lyndsie Ludwig (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright/Wilmington) scored off freshman Erin Lynn’s (Fallston, Md./Fallston) pass at the 5:15 mark to put Harford on the board, 1-0.
Lambros would begin her natural hat trick four minutes later and would spread the wealth around, with a different player assisting on each of the three goals. Sophomore Kaylee Smith (Nottingham, Md./Perry Hall) was Lambros’s first helper, feeding her a ball through the middle that Lambros finished to the right during the 10th minute.
Freshman Penelope Fantis (Fallston, Md./Fallston) would partner with Lambros next, with a through ball that Lambros again put into the right corner at the 17:02 mark and Lynn would add the final assist as Lambros took pass through a couple Cougar defenders, and dribbled around the keeper before dumping the ball in at 25:32.
Lambros wasn’t finished yet, however, as she would play the part of the helper and assisted on Ludwig’s second goal of the day, which came during the 31st minute.
Freshman Alexa Carlevaro (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) would head a ball into the net after freshman Jet Amerg’s (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun) corner kick to give Harford a 6-0 lead at the 40:10 mark, which they would take into the break.
Six minutes into the second half, Frederick would get on the board and break up a potential shutout for freshman keeper Cierra Stinson (Parkville, Md./Mercy) as Stone took a pass from Juli Sullivan and put the ball just over the head and out of reach of Stinson at the 51:10 mark.
Lambros would add her eighth and final point of the day less than a minute later as she passed to Lynn, who fired from the top of the 18-yard line at 52:05.
Sophomore Erica Bizzell (Bel Air, Md./Redeemer Classical) and LaTashia Thomas (Edgewood, Md./Joppatowne) would add the last two Harford goals in the final five minutes, with sophomore Cortney Bush (Abingdon, Md./Harford Tech) assisting on Bizzell’s rocket from 18 yards at 85:21 and freshman Kellie Zionkowski (Colora, Md./Rising Sun) helping on Thomas’s scrambler in front of the net at 89:30.
The Fighting Owls outshot the Cougars, 36-5 and held an 8-3 advantage on corner kicks, while Bowers and Thomas totaled 17 saves and Stinson and freshman keeper Alexandra Davis (Street, Md./North Harford) combined for four. Bowers stopped 12 shots and Thomas stopped five in 45:00 each, while Stinson corralled two balls in 55:00 and Davis saved two in 35:00.
The Fighting Owls wrap up a five-game roadstand this weekend as they travel to Fredericksburg, Va. on Saturday to face the Mary Washington club team and then to Louisburg College in North Carolina on Sunday.
