From Harford County Public Schools:
Tony Cofrancesco, a junior at Havre de Grace High School, was elected as the 24th Student Representative to the Board of Education of Harford County by the Harford County Regional Association of Student Councils (HCRASC) at the group’s December meeting.
Tony will shadow current Student Representative on the Board (SROB), Caitlin Dooling, for the remainder of her term until he takes over July 1, 2011. He will begin attending board meetings as he prepares to take on the responsibility of being the students’ voice on the board. A representative for the 40,000 Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) students, Tony says his goals for the coming year are similar to those who came before him.
“My biggest goal for this position is to accurately represent the students of HCPS,” Tony said of his upcoming term. “I plan to inform the students of any issues that relate to their lives in and out of school, and share their views with the board.”
Tony is currently maintaining a 4.28 GPA and is involved in 15 extracurricular activities. He is vice president of the Student Government Association and is a member of Mock Trial, Envirothon, Speech and Debate, the National Honor Society, Peer Mentors, the varsity volleyball and indoor and outdoor track teams, and the jazz and marching bands, just to name a few. He is looking forward to representing the students of Harford County and interacting with the members of the board and the superintendent for the next year.
In his spare time, Tony is an avid cyclist in and around the mid-Atlantic region. He races a full series of mountain biking throughout the spring and summer seasons. He is employed at both Chesapeake Cycle Sport (Havre de Grace) and Chesapeake TriSport (Bel Air), where he works to promote and share his passion of cycling with the residents of Harford County.
The son of Mark and Elaine Cofrancesco of Havre de Grace, Tony is the youngest of three children. He has an older brother, Brad, and an older sister, Laura. He will attend a four-year college or university following his high school graduation, though his definite plans are not yet firm. He would like to attend University of Vermont to complete the pre-medical program and then move on to the University of Vermont Medical School to major in sports medicine and nutritional studies. Or, he may go to Virginia Tech to major in environmental planning and development. Either way, he’d like to be close to the mountains for skiing!
