From Harford County government:
Plans are underway for the Maryland Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) to be held this summer at Bowie State University. Approximately 30 high school students with disabilities from across the state of Maryland, who are entering one of their final two years of high school in September 2011, will be selected to attend the forum through a competitive process.
Delegates will spend four days at Bowie State meeting with Maryland leaders with and without disabilities, participating in a legislative activity, building skills for the future, and making new friends. There is no charge to the selected student delegates.
According to Commission on Disabilities Student Representative Ben Mayforth, who attended the 2009 Youth Leadership Forum, “The Youth Leadership Forum was an opportunity to learn how to advocate for yourself in all areas of life. It showed us the endless possibilities and opportunities for people with disabilities. YLF gave me the chance to talk and spend time with other students my age from across the state to compare challenges that each one of us is facing. This is truly a worthwhile event.”
Applications to attend the Youth Leadership Forum are available online at http://www.md-ylf.org/apply.php. For more information and an application packet, contact Disabilities Coordinator, Sharon Grzanka at 410-638-3373 voice/TTY or via email at email@example.com .
