From Harford County government:
The Harford County Department of Planning and Zoning has announced that they will be updating the County’s 2004 Master Plan and Land Use Element Plan. The Land Use Element Plan identifies general areas in the County where agricultural, residential, commercial, industrial, and open space uses will be allowed. It is the policy document used to ensure a compatible pattern of land uses throughout the County.
The 2011-2012 update of the Plan is anticipated to be a year long process, and it will include various opportunities for public input. In addition to public workshops, citizens will be able to follow the process and provide comments online.
The public input process will officially begin on Thursday, February 17, 2011 with a workshop at Harford Community College’s Chesapeake Center. The session will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will include a presentation describing the planning process and the timeline for the project. The presentation will be followed by a roundtable work session where participants will be asked to provide input on what they think are the major challenges facing the County.
For those unable to attend the meeting, the Department has established a 2011-2012 Master Plan and Land Use Element Plan Update webpage at www.harfordcountymd.gov/planningzoning. This website will provide a direct link to the Department’s new online networking site. Signing into “P&Z Online Community”, citizens will have an opportunity to comment directly on the topics presented at the public workshop. The site also provides an interactive platform that allows the community to come together and discuss ideas.
Using the “P&Z Online Community”, citizens will be able to see all comments that have been made, and they will be able to have a discussion with each other on the merits of the comments.
For more information or disability related accommodations please contact the Department of Planning and Zoning at 410-638-3104.
Snow Date: In the event that the College is closed because of weather the meeting will be held on February 23, 2011 – Edgewood Hall Room E132 at Harford Community College.

What a great idea! The County is really moving forward and utilizing the tools and technology that is available to them. This is such a great opportunity for the citizens, it allows them to give their input from the comfort of their own homes at their time, rather than trying to make a public meeting fit into their busy schedules.
I really like this and look forward to utilizing this Online Community!
