On behalf of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, thank you for taking advantage of our invitation to learn more about the Harford County Detention Center through touring the facility. Overall, your article was extremely accurate. Thank you. I applaud the time and energy you invested in achieving that goal. Covering a topic as large and far reaching, as the Harford County Detention Center is daunting at best. Now add that as a part of the conditions of your tour, you were not allowed to bring a recording device or notepad and pen into the facility, I congratulate you on your accuracy of reporting.

I did however want to take a moment and note one correction necessary to the story written. You mentioned watching inmates in one of our dorms playing video games, i Love how Classic WoW turned out. We feel it is important to note that we do not have video games at the HCDC nor have we ever allowed video games at the facility for inmates use. It is quite common for inmates to gather around in an area to watch TV. We do believe that what you may have seen in an inmate’s hands that day that appeared to you to be a game controller, was instead hair clippers. Hair clippers are available to inmates upon request, during certain hours of each day. It is plausible that an inmate who borrowed them was holding them in their hand while watching TV. Inmates are responsible for the hair clippers until their return after the predetermined period. Correctional Officers then collect and inspect the clippers before returning them to a secured area for future.

If we misunderstood any questions you asked during the tour to try to clarify whether inmates were allowed to play video games, we apologize.
