From Maryland State Police:
Troopers from the Maryland State Police Bel Air Barrack responded to northbound (Maryland Route 24) at Singer Road, regarding a motor vehicle collision.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2005 Chrysler P.T. Cruiser, driven by Mildred Waltersdorff, 84 yoa, of Abingdon, MD, was traveling westbound Singer Road sitting stationary at the traffic signal for Rt. 24 and Singer Rd. Preliminarily it appears that Waltersdorff accelerated from her stationary position and continued through the intersection when she was struck on the driver’s side by a 2005 Kia Sorrento, driven by Christopher Damko, of Port Deposit. Waltersdorff was pronounced deceased by medical personnel on scene.
Five other occupants in the Sorrento driven by Damko were transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air with injuries. Chaehyeon Lim Damko, 32 yoa of Port Deposit, Yeijin Choi, 9 yoa of South Korea, Byungjun Gu, 11 yoa of South Korea, Katie Li m Damko, 3 yoa of Port Deposit and Ryan Lim Damko, 1 yoa of Port Deposit. All the occupants of the Sorrento have since been treated and released from Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while Troopers from the Maryland State Police investigated the collision.

Hearing those last names makes me wonder if they were here legally.
common sense says
Wow how ignorant can you be. Chris Damko is a white American for your information. His wife and two children are also American citizens. The other children are relatives visiting for summer vacation. Him and his family have already endured a traumatic event and don’t need your ignorance.
Jennifer says
Absolutely right about the relations and yes, no one was here illegally. Thank you for thinking and praying for both families involved.

Wow, not to mention what does their legal or illegal status have to do with this accident? The bigger issue is whether an 84 year old person is fit to be driving on this busy of a road (especially Sunday when there was torrential rain), not the status of the poor family who hit her and have to deal with this tragedy for being in the wrong place at the wrong time! Obviously, this poor elderly lady had a lapse in reflexes since apparently she suddenly accelerated through the intersection. I have no doubt her age had something to do with it!

That 84 year old woman was my mother. She was perfectly fit to drive. That particular intersection is difficult to negotiate because the lanes don’t line up. I know she was focused on what looked like oncoming traffic. According to witnesses she pulled out when those on her right started to go. (right turn on red). A reaction most of us have experienced regardless of age, but for most, luckily there isn’t a car coming. But in your opinion, another old person off the road. We’ll all be there one day.

You know it’s bad national wise when the first thing somebody asks is if the victims were illegal immigrants. At this point, that shouldn’t even be an issue. A woman is dead and a family has been traumatized. Take your ignorance somewhere else!
