From the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office:
HARFORD COUNTY, MD (September 1, 2011) – Preliminary test results of the examination by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner indicate the victim, Richard F. Weisheit, 91, of the August 25, 2011 dwelling fire at 1801 Creston Drive in Fallston was the result of smoke inhalation and thermal burn injuries received during the fire.
Approximately 60 firefighters from Harford and Baltimore Counties brought the two alarm blaze under control within one hour. The Harford County Technical Rescue Team performed shoring activities on the walls of the home during the investigation.
Deputy State Fire Marshals are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire, which was determined to have originated in the basement kitchen of the two story wood frame home. The 9:50 a.m. blaze caused an estimated $350,000 in damages to the structure and contents. Investigators did not locate any evidence of working smoke alarms during the on-scene investigation.
