From Maryland State Police:
At about 8:38 p.m. on Saturday, troopers from the Bel Air Barrack responded to a motor vehicle collision, involving a passenger vehicle and motorcycle, at the intersection of Creswell Road (MD 543) and Philadelphia Road (MD 7). The vehicles involved were a 2008 Chrysler Sebring, driven by Angela Gonzalez (29) of Millers, MD and a 2007 Harley Davidson driven by Louis Goodman (47) of Abingdon, MD.
Preliminary investigation revealed the Chrysler was traveling southbound MD 543 approaching the intersection with MD 7. The Harley Davidson was making a left turn from northbound MD 543 onto westbound MD 7. Both vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection. Currently, investigators are in the process of determining who had the right of way at the intersection when the collision occurred.
Mr. Goodman was transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and pronounced deceased by hospital personnel.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while troopers/reconstruction specialist investigated the collision.
The accident remains under investigation by TFC Dobbins and Cpl. Brady.
Prayers go out to both families. I ride myself and realize that as riders we bear the blunt of vulnerability as there is no cage around us no matter how big or small the accident. The best we can do is be as alert as possible and hope others do the same. That doesn’t always guarantee anything though, again prayers out to all families involved.
was there to see the aftermath of the accident and i must say the Maryland State troopers really dropped the ball on traffic control, there was little to none. i saw troopers standing around talking while drivers were forced to figure out how to get around the closures and get turned around without creating another accident. my advice to the troopers go back to school and retake traffic control 101 and wear reflective traffic vests so you can be seen in the dark otherwise you wil become a victim.
You seem so knowledgeable on how to handle and investigate a fatal accident perhaps you should have stopped and showed them how to do it, believe it or not when you’ve got a dead body lying in the roadway, making sure that you don’t have to sit in traffic too long so you can get home in time for dinner isn’t first priority, and with the manpower issues an even better idea would be for you to apply to MSP that way you can make sure that when you’re handling a crime scene on a public roadway your primary concern would be traffic control, and not doing a thoughrough investigation, who cares if it’s a possible manslaughter issue, DUI, getting witness statements, securing a crime scene, providing first aid, lets just make sure this mans death doesn’t slow your commute down. LOL people amaze me by there ignorance, you made it home obviously or you wouldn’t have been able to jump on this article about a man that died in an accident to complain about traffic control.
I sat in this traffic too and wondered why some officers cannot be dedicated to assist traffic while others conduct the appropriate thorough investigation. There are certainly enough officers in the county (and at every Wawa and 7-Eleven) that these incidents could be handled better. HCResident is obviously associated with the police to be so aggressive and defensive to the previous post by CED. I saw no complaint about CED wanting to get home on time. Rather, just pointing out the need to improve the way traffic issues around these incidents are managed and the safety of the officers in suggesting they wear their reflective vests.
PS. People amaze me too by “their” ignorance.
Amen OnPoint…Amen!
Nice post OnPoint!
Ouch! HCResident, commas are not periods. Try writing sentences to make your post easier to read.
For one hcresident is right, thats my moms husband your talking about and the fact that this moron is concerned with the police handling traffic is really irrelevant to the situation my step dad just lost his life because people don’t pay attention when they drive. For people on here agreeing about the traffic issue…you all need to grow up and think how you would feel reading this comments if it were your family.
Amanda, why do you believe that police properly handling traffic at the scene of an accident is irrelevant? My condolences on the loss of your Step Father.
It’s irrelevant because the police trying to investigate what happened is way more important, if it was your family you wouldn’t give a crap if you were sitting in traffic forever as long as justice was served to them, so give someone else the same respect according to your name your retired? Well then you should be old enough to know what respect is, I’m 21 and have two children and even I know whats more important in that type of situation.
Amanda, I also would like to extend my condolences for the loss of your step father. I do agree that as tragic as the loss of life is, the police must be able to provide the citizens of this county with an effective law enforcement response. That means the appropriate investigation to ensure the at-fault party is identified and held accountable and the safety of the scene to ensure that investigation can take place. This scene safety includes setting up appropriate traffic patterns around or away from the scene. HCResident’s rant is not about the loss of your step father. Read his post again and you will see that it is a rant at someone’s audacity to inquire about a traffic issue related to the accident. The police, and in this case the MSP, need to look at how they respond to these serious incidents and handle all aspects of the case, from the most serious to the most minute. Your family deserves no less.
I was agreeing with hcresident, I was disagreeing with ced and the people who agreed with them..they are taking an article that is supposed to be about someone losing thier life and turning it into how badly the officers handled the traffic. I understand people hate sitting in traffic, but in the situation them attending to the person who just died is a million times more important so quite honestly, I feel that the harford county police did the right thing as far as I’m concerned, and if it was someone that you knew, I’m sure you would agree, try putting yourself in my moms shoes right now.
Yes, I know you were agreeing with HCResident. That was the point of the mmessage. As the total level of dsapproval of his message indicates, he was doing you and your family no favor. Again, very sorry for your family’s loss.
Hcresidents post was sacrastic towards ced. Read it again and maybe you will understand that they were saying that it is more important to deal with everything else before worrying about traffic. And I’m not going to keep argueing with you, I have a million other important things to deal with right now. And don’t keep apologizing no one wants sympathy, hopefully people will start paying attention when they drive because this entire situation could have been avoided.
Our heartfelt sympathy to the Family of Lou Goodman: Terri Goodman,Jack Goodman, Louise Goodman and Children on such a terrible tragedy. Our condolences to each of you. We will always remember the years of memories and that SMILE!
This was my brother and condolences to Terri, Jack and Louise, who Lou didn’t even speak to for years, give me a break. I am so disgusted that I don’t even have the words.
“RIP” MY CLOSE FRIEND U WILL BE MISSED GREATLY “RIDE” ON MY BROTHER!
Lou was my brother and to give condolences to three people he hasn’t spoken to in years just ticks me off. People can rant and rave and cry and say things now that he has passed but it only matters what you do while the person is alive. You all can act however you want but WE all know the truth. Lou knew the truth. Love you Brother….
We have lost a wonderful person, my heart goes out to everyone that knew him ! I loved him like a brother ! I will miss him ! I Love you lou! 🙁
