From the Harford County Public Library:
Dozens of fans of manga, anime and comic books converged on the Aberdeen branch of Harford County Public Library on October 19 along with some very special guests at a Mini Comic-Con event.
Special guests included Dragon’s Den gaming designer Miguel Nieves who gave the audience a chance to talk about the future of gaming and how he got involved in the industry. In a hands-on workshop, Alison Rementer, a principle and artist for Dragon’s Den, took participants through the ins and outs of creating and styling anime characters. Those more interested in creating a comic book were introduced to Buzzboy creator, cartoonist and comic book publisher John Gallagher. Gallagher worked with budding comic artists in designing their own comic books and talked about the history of comics and graphic novels. Many attendees dressed up in costumes reflective of their interests. Throughout the evening, teens and adults worked on their drawing and storytelling skills and also played manga based games such as Yu-Gi-Oh and traded playing cards with each other. The Mini Comic-Con was supported in part by a grant from the Maryland Humanities Council.
