From Harford County government:
The Harford County Youth Commission was established in part to identify the needs of area youth and present them with opportunities and alternatives which may have a positive impact on their lives as well as to design programs and activities through community organizations, local schools and county government.
One of the goals of the Youth Commission is to designate a Youth in Government Week; in response, Harford County has designated April 16 – April 20, 2012 as that week. The goal is to raise awareness of the need for area youth to have a voice in the community and beyond. The Youth Commission developed the theme “We are the Change,” as the Commission is a resounding voice in the county on behalf of area youth.
The inaugural year of Youth in Government Week will feature a meeting with Harford County Executive David R. Craig to obtain a behind the scenes look into county government, as well as developing a solid framework for next year’s Youth in Government Week. Initial plans include forums, meetings with public officials, scavenger hunts, opportunities for extra credit, discounts at area venues, and much more.
The Youth Commission is currently seeking middle- and high-school age members. To learn more about the Harford County Youth Commission and how to become a commission member, contact 410-638-3333 or youth@harfordcountymd.gov.
