From the Level Volunteer Fire Company:
Community support is vital to volunteer fire departments in rural America. Most small communities like Havre de Grace do not receive enough funding for fire protection services, but still experience the same emergencies found in a big city. Thanks to one local farm family and America’s Farmers Grow CommunitiesSM, the Level Volunteer Fire Company recently received some much needed support.
Grow Communities, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, gives farmers the opportunity to win $2,500 for their favorite local nonprofit organizations. Bill Moore was the winning farmer in Harford County. He was grateful for the fire department’s dedication and directed the donation to Level Volunteer Fire Company.
“I would like to thank the Monsanto Fund for its continuing generosity,” Moore said. “Our firefighters are in need of new equipment and many have expressed their appreciation for this generous gift.”
Jason Gallion, president of the fire company, was thrilled to receive the donation. “The $2,500 will be used to purchase firefighter turnout gear which is also referred to as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment),” he said. “This would include items such as helmets, gloves, coats, bunker pants, and boots that will keep of our firefighters safe while protecting the community.”
In a ceremony held on April 3 at the firehouse in Havre de Grace, Moore got the chance to present Level Volunteer Fire Company with the $2,500 donation.
