Comptroller Franchot will present inaugural William Donald Schaefer Helping People awards to two organizations in northeastern Maryland on Thursday. Debora Gavin Merlock of The Greater Excellence in Education Foundation in Harford County and the Emergency Rotating Shelter in Cecil County. Both organizations help their community to thrive by assisting residents to become better educated, enhancing opportunities and increase community pride.
The Comptroller created the Schaefer award to honor the legacy of public service exemplified by former governor and comptroller William Donald Schaefer as we approach the one-year anniversary of his death. One winner was selected from each of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions and Comptroller Franchot will present the award to the winning individual or organization this spring.
