11-Year-Old Pylesville Boy Accidentally Shot and Fatally Wounded by 8-Year-Old Brother in Gun Accident

June 2, 2012 By Dagger News Service 44 Comments

From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:

Shortly after 7:00am on Saturday, June 2, 2012, Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 900 block of Old Pylesville Road in Pylesville, MD for a report of a gun shot wound. The caller indicated that her grandson had just been shot.

When deputies arrived at the scene, members of the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company were rendering aid to a young boy who had been shot in the head. The victim, identified as Michael Alexander Szoke, age 11, of the 1200 block of Ridge Road in Pylesville MD, succumbed to his injuries on the way to the landing zone to be transported to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Center by Maryland State Police Trooper 1.

At the time of the incident, it was reported to deputies that the victim was in the woods with his younger brother, age 8, of the 900 block of Pylesville Road, in Pylesville MD. Deputies were told that the shots came from an unknown direction fired by an unknown person. Supported by Maryland State Police Trooper 6 and the Harford County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, deputies on the ground worked to locate a possible random shooter nearby that may had caused the injuries to the 11-year old.

Shortly before 10am, Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies located a handgun hidden in the woods near the scene. Investigation has determined that the 11 year old was accidently shot by his 8-year old brother while they were playing in the wooded area. The boys had removed the handgun from a secured area of an elderly neighbor’s property, when they had gone to his house to help him with yard work.

There are no charges filed at this time, pending a review by the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Michelle called you an idiot and I can think of many other words to describe you better…and I also hope “natural selection” happens to select you next. What kind of person are you to say something like that! May this little boy rest in peace and may God help his family through this tragedy. This is heartbreaking.

How secure is a gun really when children can get to it and take it without the owners permission? Im also wondering why it was loaded. Definetly not pointing the finger at anyone, I’m just curious. So sad. I have a 10 year old and I could not imagine life with out her. My prayers go out to the parents and the children. I can’t even begin to imagine their pain.

this was my little cousin this happened to it is sad and is why i feel all guns should be required to have trigger locks even if “secured” in a home when there are kids around i heard about this call when i got to my firehouse this morning and to the one who said “natural selection” you will end up in hell if that is truly what you think there is no natural selection with things like this you are lucky i can not say or do what i would like to but you are more than welcome to look up kiels garage for the address and come see me

James, there’s this really awesome thing in the english language called punctuation. We use punctuation to indicate the structure and order of our thoughts; to indicate pauses, separate sentences, clarify meaning etc… You might want to try it out sometime!

I cannot even imagine what this family is going through. To lose a child at the hands of another. Whether the gun was stolen or not doesn’t negate the fact that a child is dead, and a child will have to live with what he did for the rest of his life. This family, and especially the 8 year old, needs all the prayers they can get!!

Haha, you comments sicken me. Regardless of what they did to get the gun this is a tragedy. Have you ever had to deal with a parent in a situation like this? I and many other of my brothers and sisters have. Nothing you say will make a difference. There is nothing you can do to make this better. You see the parents eyes and you have to live with that look the rest of your life. That parent just lost a child, and has to deal with the damage this has done to the other child. For the Officer, he lives with this and what ever 25 or more years will throw at him. Have you lost a child HaHa? I did almost thirty years ago. It grieves me to this day, you never get over it. I feel so bad for these parents and I don’t know them. Instead of idiots like you making remarks like this what they need is support from friends and family to help them deal with this. I feel for his younger brother and what he will have to deal with for the rest of his life. These are two young lives who made a bad choice, we all have made them growing up. I know I did some dumb things that could have hurt someone when I was younger. So instead of stupid heartless comments, maybe just get on your knees and say a prayer for everyone involved here from the parents to EMS and the Police. Say and extra prayer for this 8 year old that God will comfort him and his parents in this time of need. My prayers are with all that were involved. This family needs support, not comments from people like you pal.

No such program for the neighbors of the cannibal. Guess Harford Co. wants us to get used to this sort or thing, to make our hearts as hard as stone. Good. The world sux because it is full of evil, fornicating, stupid ppl, so F@#* all of you who aren’t me or mine! I’ll hit and run any one of you who gets too close to the road. If I see you drowning, I’ll just walk on by. People deserve no better from each other. Despite this sad gun accident, more people are definitely arming up in Harfco, they have to.

There are resources for non-police/fire/ems as well. Contact victims services through the HCSO and if what they do doesn’t really cover what you need most likely they’ll at least be able to point you in the right direction.

All these people spouting off about prayers… Tell me, what exactly is that going to do? LOL silly people with their silly religious ways, hoping an invisible man in the sky will comfort them and make everything better, and even give them this awesome paradise to chillax at after they die! Well guess what? None of that exists! So you better start dealing with the reality of your existence knowing there will be no omnipotent supernatural figure to help you along the way.

I doubt you have or will accomplish anything productive in life, and when you’re gone…no one will notice or care. Not even a random internet troll.

Enjoy the rest of you empty existence.

Well, now haha has admitted that genetically speaking that he has inferior traites. Perhaps there are even more recessive characteristics that he/ she may pass on. I do not understand why natural selection has allowed this to happen.

Oh and really, grammer required? That is really relevant. (Sarcasim) .I am so pleased to see that batman and haha have the time to so eloquently evaluate blog member’s grammer. Thank you, I really needed that. You have made such a difference in the world, by being so teaching.
While I agree the Constitution affords you the right to your expressions, it does not mean it is in good taste. Judging you rant its apparent you have no respect for others. BTW, nobody needs a lession in natural selection. I am very familiar with Darwin’s theroy. I do not think that bird beak sizes or bipedal effect have anything to do with an accident. What went so wrong in you life that caused you to be so ignorant? Just a bitter person. Sadly it’s those horrible sky talkers that pray for you. That’s what separates them from you. It’ s called compassion, something you obviously lack. A decent person would have just shut up. What would’ ve been so horrible about exiting the blog? It would have demonstrated some self control, another trait you lack as well.
    AND FINALLY….YOU’RE NOT NICE.

I am so sorry this county is filled with so many idiots who are taking advantage of this terrible tragedy. My thoughts are with the Szoke family as they deal with this terrible accident.

Those who find it necessary to repeatedly post childish comments need to grow up. I’m sorry all you have to do in life is insult people and make cruel comments to people when they are suffering. It must really suck being you.

My thoughts are with the Szoke family. Losing a child is something that you never truly recover from and I can’t begin to imagine the pain and guilt they are tormented by. I hope that they never come onto this website to be subjected to the ignorant ramblings of “HAHA.” It’s hard to imagine a person who could be so despicably cruel, but even the biggest scoundrels can find a voice while cowering pathetically behind a computer monitor. Hopefully natural selection will weed out “HAHA” soon since narcissism is also not an advantageous trait.

      For those who suffer,
and those who cry this night,
      give them repose, Lord;
      a pause in their burdens.
      Let there be minutes
      where they experience peace,
      not of man
      but of angels.
      Love them, Lord,
      when others cannot.
      Hold them, Lord,
when we fail with human arms.
      Hear their prayers
and give them the ability to hear You back
in whatever language they best understand.
