From the Harford County Boys & Girls Clubs:
Harford County Boys & Girls Clubs Executive Director Randy Acosta will leave the organization in mid-August to take a position with the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation.
“For the past three years, Randy has led our staff and members of the Boys & Girls Clubs with a new level of energy,” says Board of Directors President Tory Pierce. “He is a former Boys & Girls Club member himself and when he came to Harford County, he brought with him a needed sense of urgency which allowed him to successfully lead the clubs through a period of growth and change. His new position will allow him to take those qualities to yet another well-respected organization.”
During Mr. Acosta’s tenure as executive director, the Harford County Boys & Girls Clubs has taken over the Aberdeen Swim Club for the City of Aberdeen, has introduced STEM education programs, and increased corporate support, particularly by Harford County’s Science & Technology companies. Early this spring, the clubs partnered with the owners of Camp Hidden Valley, a 200-acre wooded area that is adjacent to Rocks State Park. The camp brings a wide range of outdoor activities to Harford’s children.
“Our corporate, government and community partners have been incredibly supportive of the Harford County Boys & Girls Clubs over the past several years, “ says Mr. Acosta. “Through these relationships, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County has become a much stronger organization. Our long-time and new partners have provided valuable financial resources as well as many hours of their professional time to help members along their path to adulthood. Success is a natural outcome when so many different people in the community come together for a single cause!”
Looking forward, the organization plans to resume school year hours, Monday-Friday 3-8pm, at each of its four locations on September 4th. In spring 2012, the organization had announced its reduction of hours to meet a budget shortfall. With increased fundraising the Clubs have made progress. However, the organization must continue this path to meet its funding goals for this fiscal year to maintain services.
Tim Wills, currently the Associate Executive Director, will serve as the interim director while the Board of Directors conducts a nationwide search for a new executive director. Mr. Wills is in his eighth year with Boys & Girls Clubs holding positions at several national locations. For the past three years, he has been actively involved in the Harford Club’s day-to-day operations and major expansion initiatives.
