From Harford Friends School:
The Harford Friends School Board of Trustees recently announced the appointment of Clare S. Pitz as head of school. Pitz had served most recently as interim Head of School.
Pitz is a graduate of the College of Notre Dame of Maryland with a BA in English. Her Masters in Liberal Arts degree was earned at Johns Hopkins University, and she has pursued further studies toward a PhD at The University of Maryland.
Pitz brings an impressive level of classroom and administrative experience to this position. She began her career in the Baltimore County Public Schools as a teacher of English, progressed to Department Chair and on to Assistant Principal. She has held positions as principal for both Notre Dame Preparatory and Towson Catholic High Schools. Her most recent position has been teacher of English and Social Studies in the Middle School at Harford Friends where she joined her husband Ray Pitz, teacher of mathematics.
Lois Kissinger Kelly, Chair of Trustees, stated, “We are so very pleased that Clare has agreed to accept this position as Head of our remarkable school. She has fully embraced the Quaker philosophy and processes which underlie the uniqueness of a Friends School education. She brings us continuity and stability as well as new ideas, foresight and wide experience which will benefit the growth of our school and prosperity for years to come. ”
“I am excited about helping to shape the future of Harford Friends School,” said Clare Pitz. “I look forward to working with teachers to strengthen our academic programs and to encourage independent and creative thinking. We also will continue to develop student self confidence and leadership within the context of Quaker values of educational excellence.”
Pitz’ interest in joining the Quaker school community of Harford Friends School was solidified first hand through her daughter Megan’s experience at HFS. Megan graduated with the class of 2010 and is currently enrolled at West Nottingham Academy. Her son, Kevin, is a sophomore business major at Penn State, York Campus.
Over the summer, Harford Friends School moved into its new Forest Hill campus at 2230 Rock Spring Road, at the intersection of Routes 23 and 24.

Great school if you have the means to send your children. One of a number of great private schools in Harford County. Why would you send your kids to HCPS if you could afford to send them to Friends, or Harford Day, or any of the other really good private schools?
