Delegate Glass announced today a new bill, House Bill 371, entitled: INCOME TAX CREDIT – CAT AND DOG ADOPTION, which gives a $100 dollar income tax credit to any Marylander for adopting a dog or a cat from a shelter.
“This bill works well in conjunction with HB 78/SB 160”, claimed Delegate Glass. “The bill incentivizes potential pet-owners to adopt from a shelter instead of other means”, Glass continued.
This bill comes at a good time since HB 78 Civil Actions – Personal Injury or Death Caused by Dog – Rebuttable Presumption takes away the liability on owners and landlords regarding pit bulls.
“Right now most of these innocent pit bulls are basically in purgatory, and this bill gives these innocent animals a greater chance of finding a good home”, Glass concluded.
The bill has 45 co-sponsors in the House of Delegates and has bipartisan support.
Oh please Glen Glass, would you KINDLY focus your efforts on something worth while! (as opposed to doling out welfare to potential pet owners that probably won’t take care of their “adopted” pit bulls once they obtain the same!) 🙁
More government tax subsidies and regulations, please! This is a wonderfully useful and necessary burden on Maryland taxpayers.
How is a tax cut to individuals doling out government money? Would you rather they give a tax cut to casinos or other big businesses? Thank you delegate glass for standing up for innocent pit bulls!
Any bill that encourages adoption of a homeless animal over purchasing one from a puppy mill makes very good sense. This bill applies not onlt to pit bulls but all breeds, although the pits certainly deserve a chance for good homes, particualrly given the sad situations they sometimes come from.
This is nonsense. Who voted for this guy? Isn’t he the same nut job that’s worried about Smart Meters? Just how far do you guys feel the need to go to acquire tax breaks to avoid supporting government for the services you receive? Try something in reverse… charge a fee for people that can’t restrain their animals or spay or neuter them and depend upon the state or local municipality to intervene to correct the problem they can’t handle?
The government has no place being involved in pet ownership let alone using hard-working tax dollars to pay for handouts to adopt a cat or dog. How far have we strayed (no pun)?
I concur!!! My tax dollars being used for such an inane idea? Huh? If money really exists for yet one more credit, please, please, don’t pass this and instead lower my overall tax burden!
