From Harford Community College:
Towson University and Harford Community College celebrated a ceremonial groundbreaking today, Thursday, May 30, establishing Towson University in Northeastern Maryland. TU and HCC have collaborated since 2006 on the innovative 2+2 program that will allow students to study two years at the community college level then finish their coursework toward a bachelor’s degree at Towson University in Northeastern Maryland.
University of Maryland Chancellor, William “Britt” Kirwan remarked that the motivation to build Towson University in Northeastern Maryland was fueled by an obligation and a desire to serve the needs of residents in the area who seek higher degrees. More than 70 percent of HCC students who choose to continue their education transfer to Towson University said TU president Maravene Loeschke.
The $28 million facility, which is expected to be completed in July of 2014, will make Towson’s programs easier to access for Harford County residents and will provide opportunities for study and workforce development in the region. The university expects 140 to 200 students in the fall 2014 class, with hopes to double that number the following year.
Undergraduate degree programs offered by TU in Northeastern Maryland include: Business Administration (management concentration), Information Technology, Integrated Early Childhood Education/Special Education, Psychology, and Sociology (criminal justice concentration).
Towson University in Northeastern Maryland will be administrated entirely by TU. Applicants will apply to TU and pay tuition to the university. Admissions requirements for TU in Northeastern Maryland will be the same as those for students who study in Towson.
In addition to classrooms, the 60,000 sq. ft. building will house wet labs, an auditorium, a library, a bookstore and a lactation room for nursing mothers.

So, where is it located? Wouldn’t that be an appropriate bit of information for this article?
Glen says
I’m pretty sure it’s across Thomas Run Rd from the main entrance to the HCC campus where they put in the traffic circle.
Eric says
That owl looks mighty angry!
George says
I would be too if I was posing with the Cheetos mascot.
Sad says
I’d rather have the Cheetos mascot represent my university than an owl with a hitler mustache
Pavel314 says
Too wide for Hitler; more of a Groucho Marx style.
Roadmap says
From 22, go down Thomas Run, straight though the circle, past the last entrance to the college. The building site will be on your left. Can’t miss it.
TPP says
How is the infrastructure in the county going to support the additional traffic along Rt. 22 and the backroads leading to and from the school? It’s already a nightmare during rush hour and around class change.
They already have the HEAT center, I really don’t see why they need a separate TU building. They’ll be scamming even more kids by giving them a false hope of a good job by having a degree.
Jesse says
I’m intrigued that you think anything in Harford county qualifies as “nightmare” traffic. There are very few, if any, roads that see any sizable amount of traffic for more than 2-3 hours a day.
The Money Tree says
Everything is relative – compared to LA at rush hour then your right but for residents who’ve lived here any length of time let me assure you it’s become a nightmare by comparison. Try to get from downtown Belair to HCC between 5-6 pm; it’s a nightmare. You must be new.
Aint there says
Nope.

I believe there is no public water or sewerage at this location. So they are going to run this complex on wells and private septic systems?!?! Or are they going to extend public water and septic?
I see Maravene wasn’t too ashamed to show her face.
WebsterHatesU says
Why should she be ashamed?
Are you referring to the “controversy” of a school trying to keep their athletic program viable? The only people who should be ashamed are those who demanded the school pay for the sports that it could not adequately fund and then balked when the school asked for assistance. I know it’s easier to jump on the bandwagon and bash the scapegoat-du-jour, but get a clue will you? This is just another example of bureaucratic overreach and micromanagement. If the Comptroller or anyone else in the state were genuinely concerned, there would have been outrage long before the cuts were proposed. TU Baseball and Soccer have been in danger for a few years and anyone with a legitimate stake in the programs has known just a long.
Jaguar Judy says
You have to have a very special talent for stepping in it to get both O’Malley and Franchot to agree with each other publicly and take sides against you. And it wasn’t a ‘controversy’ it was a major blunder on her part because she ended up eating it and nearly lost her job over it. She isn’t really safe yet and I would be surprised if she lasts much longer.
HCC Neighbor says
I find it interesting that HCC has not released a current and accurate campus plan showing what they are doing on site. It is also interesting that the powers that be can shoot down an elementary school because of “too much traffic” – although bus traffic for an elementary school would be at controlled times – yet approve this addition to HCC.
I am not opposed to HCC campus, Bel Air, or Harford County growth, but there are a lot of things that need to be carefully planned prior, including ensuring that area infrastructure is up to par. It is almost a Harford County epidemic – things that should be done up front are done as an afterthought and unfortunately, we pay our hard-earned tax dollars to drive (or sit in traffic) on crowded roads filled with crappy construction.
Things need to change. It is a reasonable expectation to be informed, and almost an insult that HCC only cares to show the community photo ops.

Am I the only one that finds the infamous ‘ground breaking shovel ceremony’ pictures hilarious?
Brianc says
No way it will be finished in a basically a year..
