Harford County Government will be closed Monday, September 2, 2013 in observance of the Labor Day holiday. County Government will re-open for normal business on Tuesday, September 3, 2013.

What!?! Why!?? This is absurd.
Don’t they get enough holidays?! Lazy government workers – live it up while the rest of us “labor” on labor day.
It is unusual they didn’t give themselves an extra paid day off like july 5th.
Nothing better than a 4 day weekend paid for by someone who actually works.
Actually, I have 8 personal days, 21 vacation days and over 800 hours of sick leave that will be parlayed into 2000 paid hours when I retire from the county. I’ll cash it in and have another year added to my fat pension. Thanks! If you can’t beat them, join them!!

@disgusted—poor little fellow has to go to work. So do I and as 24 x 7 employee, except that I will get overtime for the pleasure of serving to your needs or your neighbors. The 5th of July was an administrative decision and not one that the county had to make per our contract. It is nice sometimes when you do good work that your employer rewards you for it. Try working hard instead of complaining and maybe your employer will reward you with some extra paid time off.
Heck I’m just happy you guys only decided to take off 1 paid day I mean who wouldn’t like to give them self a paid day off at some one elses expense?
And no county employee got the day off because they worked hard they got it because they have no one but the taxpayers to answer to and lets face it county employees will take anything they think they can get away with.
Speaking of that what ever happened to the county employee dump gas thieves?
I guess they’ll be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, lose their pensions and shamed their families. I surely hope that they serve jail time and hopefully HCG can learn from their abuse and institute better inventory controls so that dedicated employees don’t have to worry about taxpayers thinking we all steal gas too. The very fact that they had the Sheriff arrest them and investigate the crime speaks well for HCG as they could have been slapped a fine of them and reprimanded without anyone knowing about it.
@taxpayer– Labor Day has been a federal holiday for many years ( go look it up) and HCG observes all federal holidays. Have you been living under a rock? 90% of all employees are off that day, except fire, police, prison, emergency services, water and sewer and critical employees to maintain safety (most of these are also govt workers too!)
I meant to include private employed persons on that 90%, of course hospitals are open as they are critical services.
