From The Vape Lounge:
Mickey Cucchiella is still full of hot air. The comedic phenom who logged seven years as 98 Rock’s morning show’s most famous and controversial co-host is now blowing smoke – nay, vapor – at his new e-cigarette and coffee shop, opening on Sept. 21, in Bel Air.
Called “The Vape Lounge,” Cucchiella’s vape and coffee shop at 138 North Bond Street, directly next door to the Bel Air Bakery, will be the first of many shops he hopes to open in and around Baltimore. “Vaping,” the newly coined term for inhaling flavored vapor from e-cigarettes, is often touted as a safer, carcinogen-free form of traditional smoking. E-cigarettes do not generate carcinogenic smoke like traditional cigarettes; instead, they generate vapor from water, liquid flavorings, and two organic compounds called propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG), both of which are widely used as food additives.
Cucchiella partnered with his long-time assistant, Loria Scheisser, and Bryan and Rachel Walker, the owners of Vape Dojo, a vape shop with locations in Ellicott City, MD, and Harrisonburg, VA, to open The Vape Lounge. The Vape Lounge’s hours will be from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The website is coming soon at www.thevapeloungeusa.com.
The coffee that will be served is exclusively Baltimore Coffee, currently sold at Baltimore Coffee & Tea locations in Timonium, MD (which also houses its roasting plant), Annapolis, MD, and Frederick, MD. Baltimore Coffee is known for its varietals and fair-trade organic coffees.
More About Vaping
“Vaping” is the act of inhaling vaporized flavored liquids using an atomizer, a battery tube, a lithium ion battery, and a drip tip, all assembled in a hand-held cylinder designed to be similar to the shape of a cigarette.
Liquid flavors, or “juices,” available to be vaporized in customers’ atomizers range from banana nut bread, to menthol, to fruit, to tobacco itself. These juices – combinations of flavorings, water, and the pharmaceutical grade PG/VG base – are mixed for The Vape Lounge in a newly-built juice lab in Virginia. Some juices (also known as “e-juices” or “e-liquids”) contain nicotine and can help transition a smoker of traditional cigarettes away from the habit. Smokers can choose nicotine amounts from 18 milligrams, to 12 milligrams, and so on down to 0 milligrams as they wean themselves.
The Journal of Public Health Policy, a peer-reviewed medical journal since 1980, stated in a 2011 review that “electronic cigarettes may aid in smoking cessation and are likely to be more effective at this than traditional pharmacotherapy,” according to Wikipedia’s page on vaping.
Cucchiella, who often went public on 98 Rock and local comedy club stages about his recurring battles with smoking addiction, cannot agree more.
“”This is the first product I have used that allowed me to truly give up cigarettes. I feel great and my children could not be happier,” said Cucchiella. “I am more excited about this than I am comedy.”
