The Winter Wonderland Committee of The Community Projects of Havre de Grace, City of Havre de Grace and Main Street create a Winter Wonderland Spectacular in downtown Havre de Grace. Warm up with our holiday spirit, the festive holiday lit streets, and the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus Friday December 6th.
The City of Havre de Grace has brought the community organizations together for a parade which will begin at 6pm from the American Legion and continue through the downtown on St. John Street, Washington Street and end at Congress Avenue. This is a great way to kick off the Holiday events and Christmas spirit.
The parade features Havre de Grace Department of Recreation’s Cheerleaders, Drama Guild, and Basketball teams. Other Community organizations to participate are HdG’s Girl Scout Troops, the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum, the Friends of the Concord Point Lighthouse, Steppingstone Farm Museum and the model of the Lantern Queen. The Havre de Grace High School Marching Band and the Havre de Grace Cheerleaders will cheer on the Havre de Grace Boys and Girls Soccer Teams who qualified to go to the Championships. Susquehanna Hose Company arrives with Santa and Mrs. Claus to light the Christmas tree at Rochambeau Plaza. Santa will be waiting to hear your wishes at Santa Land on the 200 block of Washington Street.
“Visitors will be mesmerized by our holiday store fronts and the decorations the Winter Wonderland Committee has graced our City with”, stated Brigitte Peters, City of Havre de Grace Tourism and Marketing Manager, “each year the committee, led by Shalone Lawson, who’s committee enhanced the decorations, due to the support of our community and businesses.” Main Street has provided surprises for Santa to hand out to all the children on behalf of our business community.
Mason’s Susquehanna Lodge 130, is happy to unveil a large scale floor display model train. This train experience depicts the Concord Point Lighthouse and the R. Madison Mitchell Decoy Shop. Children will have an opportunity to experience a spectacular electric train garden done by Manny Pospisll and R. Madison Mitchell, Jr in support of the Masons. The train garden will be open Friday December 6th beginning at 5:30 pm and continuing during and after the parade, Saturday December 7th 12 noon- 1:30 pm, and Sunday December 8th 4pm – 8pm to compliment the Candle Light Tour.
The Winter Wonderland Festivities continue the next day December 7th. Pizza with Santa at La Banque de Flueve on St. John’s St. from 11:30 am – 3 pm. Tickets for pizza with Santa are $1 and can be purchased at Java by the Bay.
Santa will return to greet the children at Santa Land December 14th and 21st from 12:00 pm – 1:30. Be sure to enter to win bikes donated by Vulcan Materials. The Committee has arranged for Caroling throughout the City of Havre de Grace beginning at 6 pm on December 21st.
Throughout the month we offer many holiday experiences. The 41th Annual Candlelight tour of homes on December 8th, , tickets available at the Havre de Grace Visitor Center, a Holiday Open House at Steppingstones Farm Museum December 7 and 8th, The Lock House Ladies and the Concord Point Lighthouse are ready to share their homemade crafts and bake goods to enhance your holiday shopping. The Christmas Boutique is opened at the Lockhouse Museum Saturday December 7 from 9 am-3 pm and Sunday 12 noon – 6pm. The Concord Point Lighthouse will open their boutique Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 12noon-4pm. Experience the 15th Annual outdoor Nativity Scene Contest from December 15th – 25th and self-guided tours of the churches in Havre de Grace December 29th from 2pm-4pm.
