From Harford County Government:
(Bel Air, MD) – – The Green Star for the second quarter goes to Ron Davis of Harford County Government’s Department of Public Works, Division of Environmental Services.
When an office has various locations, they often face challenges when scheduling meetings. The Division of Environmental Services faces this challenge with locations at the Harford Waste Disposal Center Scale House in Street and the Waste to Energy Scale House in Joppa.
Ron Davis of Environmental Services proposed a way to increase meeting participation and decrease travel costs. Working with ICT and the Sustainability Office, Ron arranged for a pilot webcam program. Two webcams were purchased and installed at the two locations.
Currently, the office uses web conferencing to facilitate more frequent communication between offices while supporting the County’s green initiatives.
Members of the Green Team voted on the winning selection. The selection process consisted of a review of all Green Stars awarded between October and December of 2013, to identify the top Green Star award. Ron received a green globe from a member of the Green Team on Thursday March 13, 2014 for being selected as Green Star of the Quarter.
The Green Team works with the Sustainability Office to advocate and develop best management sustainability practices that efficiently use and reuse the County’s resources. The Green Team was created in 2008 as the Energy Management Steering Committee (later renamed the Green Team) by County Executive David R. Craig to discuss energy efficiency within County Government and to collaborate on ways to reduce the County’s environmental footprint.
In June 2010, the Green Team created the Green Star Program to recognize actions by county employees that demonstrate a commitment to environmental stewardship, promote energy efficiency and resource management.
