The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Maryland State Police have concluded an ongoing investigation into an arson fire at Hilton Garden Inn, at 1050 Beards Hill Road in Aberdeen, Harford County. Investigators from the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire, which occurred in the laundry room, was incendiary in nature.
A warrant was issued for the suspect, Gerald A. Rogers (31), for Arson – First Degree, Malicious Burning – Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment and Destruction of Property. The Maryland State Police stopped Rogers for a traffic violation on April 4, 2014 around 1 a.m., at which time he was taken into custody without and transported to the Anne Arundel County Detention Center. Rogers was seen by a District Court Commissioner, who posted his bond at $60,000. Rogers has been committed to the detention center at this time.
The fire originally occurred on November 9, 2013 at 10:54 pm. At the time of the fire, the hotel was occupied and the fire alarm activated. Employees at the hotel identified the fire and contacted 911. Local fire departments arrived and extinguished the fire quickly, which only caused minor damage. Rogers was a disgruntled employee at the Hilton when the fire occurred.
