[Bel Air, MD] June 18, 2014—Harford Family House, the largest provider of transitional housing for homeless families with children in Harford County, will host two equestrian-themed events this August as part of its 25th anniversary celebration: the Claddagh Manor Horse Show & Harford Family House Family Fun Day on Saturday, August 16, and the Horses for the Homeless Gala on Saturday, August 23.
Claddagh Manor Horse Show & Harford Family House Family Fun Day
On Saturday, August 16, Harford Family House will partner with Claddagh Manor Farms to provide a day of fun activities for the entire family. All festivities will take place at the Harford Equestrian Center, 702 N. Tollgate Rd., Bel Air, Md. The horse show begins at 8 a.m. and ends when completed. Family activities take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include pony rides, a petting zoo, clowns and face-painting, as well as stick horse races, food, vendors and crafts. There is no cost to attend, though some activities will have a fee. All proceeds support Harford Family House.
Horses for the Homeless Gala
On Saturday, August 23, from 7-11 p.m., Harford Family House will host its premiere 25th anniversary event, Horses for the Homeless Gala, presented by Jones Junction, at the Water’s Edge Event Center in Belcamp, Md. Celebrated in the style of Maryland’s Preakness Stakes, guests are invited to wear Preakness-inspired apparel, such as hats and sundresses for the ladies and suits with boldly colored ties and shirts for the gentlemen. The food, too, will echo the Preakness theme, boasting a menu that includes many seafood options, such as jumbo lump crab cakes. Guests can participate in a donation-funded mock horse race with the chance to win prizes and a live horse will also be onsite for photo opportunities with guests. Live music will be provided by The Panama Band, which performs music that spans generations, including everything from the greatest love ballads of yesteryear to the hottest dance songs of today. Tickets are $150 per person and group sponsorships are available. For tickets and more information, visit Harford Family House’s event page.
Sponsors to date for the gala include Jones Junction, Saxon’s Diamond Centers, Harford Financial Group, Chesapeake Employers Insurance, Harford Mutual Insurance, Peoples Bank, Klein’s ShopRite and Grace Callwood’s We Cancerve Movement. A number of businesses have stepped forward to create a new funding group for Harford Family House called the Leadership Giving Circle, whose members include Lance Hersh of Saxon’s Diamond Centers, Matt Rehak of Harford Financial Group, Richard Huffman of Celebree Learning Centers and Steve Smeltzer of Jones Junction.
“August is going to be a busy month for Harford Family House!” said Harford Family House Executive Director Joyce Duffy. “We’re excited to have two reasons this August to partner with the community in fun ways to raise awareness about and support for the valuable work that Harford Family House performs every day. By attending one of the events this August, you can play a role in supporting the hundreds of families in need who benefit from our services every day. Just $25 provides housing for one mother, farther or child for one night.”

This is one of the few organizations that Harford County Government hasn’t either taken over or thought of taking over. Pitiful. It’s good to see the wonderful work this organization is doing in the community to assist those most in need. I hope local government will stay out of their business.
