From the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund:
The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, the nation’s largest resource for openly LGBT individuals in politics, endorsed Joseph C. Smith for Harford County Council.
“Councilman Joseph Smith has been a strong advocate for public safety and education for Havre de Grace’s residents,” said Torey Carter, managing director of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund. “I have no doubt that he will continue to be an advocate for his community if elected to the Harford County Council.”
Smith was elected to the City Council of Havre de Grace, Maryland in 2012, giving him the distinction of being the first openly gay elected official in Harford County. Smith’s involvement in politics came when he was involved with helping his father run for a state house seat in Michigan. In 2009, Smith helped form Stonewall Democrats of Central Maryland (SDCM) and was elected its first vice president. Under Smith’s leadership as membership chair, SDCM attracted 62 members in its first year. Smith was elected in the 2010 Democratic Primary to a seat on the Harford County Democratic Central Committee and currently serves as its treasurer. Smith works as an independent human resources consultant and is co-owner of Glyph Art and Design Studio in Havre de Grace.
The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund is the largest resource for LGBT individuals in politics. The organization works to elect LGBT leaders to public office for one simple reason. They change America’s politics. As leaders in government, they become the face and voice of a community. They challenge the lies of extremists and speak authentically about themselves, their families and their community. Since 1991, the Victory Fund has helped thousands of openly LGBT candidates win election to local, state and federal offices. This year alone the Victory Fund will endorse more than 200 out LGBT candidates for public office – the largest in the organization’s history.

He was hardly openly gay when he ran for HdG City Council. Only after he was elected and he married his beau at the lighthouse did most citizens finally realize. Gay or straight…he is a do nothing. The Jerseyites in Bulle Rock put him on the city council thinking he was going to do something about their payment of city property taxes for no services. He did nothing for them because he is ineffectual. Now he wants to move on to the County – message to Joe Smith – this County is in serious trouble because of the rampant fraud and abuse of David Craig. The County Council needs real men who can take action. You are not that man.

North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) is Gay man advocacy organization in the United States. We works to abolish age of consent laws criminalizing adult sexual involvement with minors, and campaigns for the release of all men who have been jailed for sexual contacts with minors that did not involve coercion.
We at NAMBLA are honored to endorse Joseph C. Smith for the Harford County Council.
