The Harford County Education Association Endorses Pro-Public Education Candidates
From the Harford County Education Association:
The Harford County Education Association announced several endorsements for local and state pro-public education candidates today: Pat Vincenti (County Council, District E), Rachel Gauthier (Board of Education, District E); Jeffrey Elliot (House of Delegates, District 35B); Andrew Cassilly (House of Delegates, District 35B); Cassandra Beverley (House of Delegates, District 34B); and Mary-Dulany James (State Senate, District 34).
“All of these candidates have shown a steadfast commitment to our community, our schools, our teachers, and our students,” said HCEA President Ryan Burbey. “Harford educators look forward to working with them on the campaign trail and in office to solve the challenges that face our county.”
“I am truly humbled and honored to receive the HCEA’s endorsement,” said Pat Vincenti. “There is no question that the Harford County Government and the County Council want to ensure that our children and our grandchildren continue to have the quality educators, technology, and facilities they need to succeed. I will do all I can to promote and strengthen the quality and excellence we are accustomed to in HCPS.”
“HCEA is excited to endorse three educators for higher office—Rachel Gauthier, Jeffrey Elliot, and Andrew Cassilly,” said Burbey. “The knowledge and experience they bring about what our students need make them uniquely qualified to serve and advocate for our schools.”
“During my 14 years of experience as a middle school counselor, I’ve seen the impact that decisions made out outside of the classroom, make directly on the classroom,” said Gautier. “Transparency and communication are key in getting everyone to understand and address the challenges we are facing in education today.”
“I have been a teacher with Harford County Public Schools since 2002, and have seen firsthand that the funding for our school system does not meet the needs of our students or faculty and staff,” said Elliot. ”Change is needed because we are failing where funds are needed most. I will work to make changes to improve our district, our county, and our state.”
Over the course of his career with HCPS, Andrew Cassilly has served our community and our children well.
“I am extremely honored to be endorsed by the HCEA,” said Cassilly. “As the HCPS resource conservation manager, I’ve championed efficiency and expanded the technology available to our students, while also saving valuable resources and funds. I will work hard to make sure our community’s voice is heard in Annapolis.”
HCEA also endorsed a school board member and longtime parent advocate, Cassandra Beverley. “I’m very honored to receive this endorsement,” said Beverly. “I greatly admire our teachers for their dedication and commitment to students and our future.”
“We are also proud to endorse Mary-Dulany James,” said Burbey. “She has always been a strong supporter of education in Harford County and the State of Maryland. As someone who was educated in Harford County public schools, she knows the importance of a quality education and fights to protect education funding in Annapolis. One of her proudest accomplishments was the passage of the Thornton Act in 2002, which increased the State’s education funding by 82% and resulted in Maryland’s ranking as the top public education system in the United States.”
HCEA vets all candidates for endorsement through a careful selection process, which includes completion of a questionnaire and interviews with educators. All candidates were given the opportunity to participate in the HCEA endorsement process.
Former Gov. Ehrlich Endorses Gahler for Harford County Sheriff
From the Gahler for Sheriff Campaign:
On Friday, former Governor Robert “Bob” Ehrlich joined more than four hundred community members from across Harford County at a fundraising event in support of Jeff Gahler to be the next Sheriff of Harford County. During his appearance, Governor Ehrlich formally endorsed Gahler and underscored that he is the most competent candidate to improve the quality of life for all public safety professionals and citizens in the county.
In his remarks, Ehrlich went on to say that Gahler’s experience as a former State Police Commander has given him the unique experience to understand and lead the state’s largest Sheriff’s office and serve the residents, business owners and visitors of Harford County just like he has done for the last 28 years for the people of Maryland.
“The citizens of Harford County deserve the best possible service from government, especially from their sheriff,” said Ehrlich. “It is clear that Jeff is the right man for the job. Therefore, in an effort to improve the quality of life for all public safety professionals and the citizens of Harford County, I am proud to endorse Jeff Gahler for Harford County Sheriff.”
The Governor’s endorsement joins a growing list of support from community members, retired Sheriff’s office command staff members and elected officials including, former Sheriff’s William J. Kunkel and R. Thomas Golding and Maryland State Senator Nancy Jacobs. Gahler was also recently endorsed by the Harford County Correctional Association, an organization that is made up of Sheriff’s Office employees holding the ranks of Deputy through Captain at the Harford County Detention Center.
Jeff Gahler is a 37 year resident of Harford County and resides in the Forest Hill Community with his wife, Sonya, and their two daughters, Shelby and Sydney. He is a North Harford High School and Harford Community College graduate and obtained both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Management from Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Gahler is a member of the adjunct faculty within the Public Safety Leadership Program at Johns Hopkins University and is an operating partner with the Advanced Leadership Consortium, a company committed to providing quality training and consulting services to public safety organizations and private businesses.
Parents Choice of Maryland Endorses Guthrie for County Council District A
From Parents Choice of Maryland:
Dear Mr. Guthrie,
Parents Choice of Maryland is proud to announce that you have received our 2014 endorsement for County Council, District A, Harford County (General Election). We view you as someone who can lead. From your website content and other sources we believe that you will work to protect our children, our environment and our jobs in that order. It is apparent that you want to provide the opportunity for our children and grandchildren to have a better quality of life than we had. And you have demonstrated to us, through words and deeds that that you care and you are compassionate. Perhaps most important of all, you will address the needs of the voter over all others, especially special interests and political activists. We are proud of you.
Each and every person that we have endorsed this year exhibits the attributes that are descriptive of you and your campaign. If all of you, from both major parties and the third parties we have endorsed, can find a way to carry forward your heart felt desire to move our State in a positive direction and improve our overall quality of life we could be living in a completely different atmosphere of hope. Please work hard and find a way to bind our state’s fractured sense of what the future holds and bring us together as one people with a common cause. We are hiring you for the next few years to lead and lead you must. We are sorely lacking in that department and we are placing our trust in you. Now you must earn it every day.
Always remember, that the seat you hold belongs to the people, not the occupant, as so many in office believe today. Political leadership is not a career or even an occupation; it is a duty and a responsibility that should be treated with honor and respect.
Good luck with your campaign.

James Proud to be Endorsed by AFSCME and Maryland Fraternal Order of Police
From Friends of Mary-Dulany James:
Dear Friend,
I am proud to share that AFSCME Maryland Council 3, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, has endorsed my campaign for election to the Maryland Senate.
AFSCME’s members provide the vital services that make America happen. They are nurses, corrections officers, child care providers, EMTs, sanitation workers and more. I share that vision of fairness in the workplace, excellence in public services and prosperity and opportunity for all working families.
Like the members of AFSCME, I believe that serving the public is not just a job, it’s a calling. I join AFSCME in supporting the vital services that keep our families safe and make our communities strong, and in advocating for prosperity and opportunity for all of America’s working families.
I share AFSCME’s commitment to public service. Please join AFSCME and vote to help me fight for our working families in the Maryland Senate!
I am proud that the Maryland Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the state’s largest police union, has endorsed me for election to the Maryland Senate.
Our police officers count on the legislature to give them the tools they need to keep our communities safe. That’s why I helped pass a tough new law to crack down on sexual predators and gangs.
Sincerely,
Mary-Dulany James
Gahler gets my vote. Shown to be honest man with conservative values. Just what the current guy is not.
Voting for the DSU Endorsement ends today. I hope my fellow members have the courage to vote Bane and his vindictive nature out of office. WE NEED CHANGE NOW!
Vote for whatever sheriff candidate you want but please don’t use the “Change” word again. Look what we got the last time we bought in to that one.
Looks like a Baner has figured out how to do tons of thumbs down and block posts by someone they disagree with. No surprise. Dishonest and low handed, just like Bane.
Shame on you politicking about this tragedy. You have no shame
How do you make all those dislikes all by yourself?
I will tell you if you tell me how you think of all the different names you use. Let’s show some respect for the significance of this sad story and stop the political BS.
You should not use my name.
WTF are you talking about? This is a story about political endorsements. Are you drunk or dumb or drunk and dumb?
So much for political and meaningless endorsements. The real endorsements will occur on election day by the only group that matters- THE VOTERS. And to the Gahlerlites: You guys really hate when people disagree with you. It seems a lot of people disagree with you.
Well, that special Senior Dfc rank Bane knew nothing about seems to have really helped. I guess if he would have given this to the jail it might have been helpful as well.
http://youtu.be/rBfBMiqvCJw Bane & Gahler debate at HCDSU meeting.
Pay attention to the part where Bane makes reference to knowing more about a deputy who was looking for a job when he passed him over for promotion. Just another lie that will be proved in a few days.
Mary, Mary quite contrary. She sends out glossy mailers claiming to hate taxes but gets the endorsement from the tax and spend government unions and organizations. Sure babe! We believe you. Not.
Tax and spend James: I agree with you 100%! She tells her constituents that she voted against Owe’Malley’s tax increases BUT, she does not tell her constituents that she voted FOR every one of Owe’Malley’s tax increases “in committee”. Then she asks for permission from Miller to vote against those same tax increases on the floor so she will look good to her constituents because she knew that the Democrats had enough “yes” votes to pass the tax increases without her voting “yes”. That, my friends is but one example of how the unethical political game is played in Annapolis…….
Do you have any links to back up your claims? You cannot just make assertions like that when the votes are available online…
Hope you all enjoyed the THUMBS DOWN button tonight as much as I did. It is a pleasure to block Marc Eaton’s multiple identities. Just got tired of reading your BS Marc. Have a nice day:)
Yo Lunatic, Don’t let this out but if you “Click here to see” you can actually see the comment. Don’t you think people are going to do that to see what it is people are trying to hide???
Yeah, but it does bother the hell out of them……..
They don’t think that much Hedley.
We don’t matter and we are all crazy but they hide our comments and attack us. I love the thumbs down they give me, I know I am getting to them.
The fact you keep mentioning it shows it’s getting to you.
Yes, Hedley,
That is where the Gahlerlites should be- ought of sight.
If I were otherwise unsure for whom to vote, I would vote against anyone with an HCEA or AFSCME endorsement. Both of those unions have shown their true colors and intent.
Laura Runyeon should have been endorsed by the HCEA as the best candidate for District B school board member. She is one of the few, if not only person, who has worked her butt off to really affect positive change within District B. Her opponent, Bob Frisch, who’s name was not mentioned in this article was one of the board members who voted FOR our magnet school students, Harford Tech excluded, to first have to go to their primary high school, then take another bus to final destination. He voted to stop the original transportation plan of students getting the bus at a designated area in and around their neighborhood(s), then nonstop to magnet school. Why was Laura Runyeon left out of this article? In addition, she’s NOT, I repeat NOT a career politician like the rest of those folks endorsed. When will the public ever learn…..
Runyeon wants an entirely separate set of buses for one magnet school?! When the kids can all go over together in one bus??
I’m surprised the HCEA didn’t endorse her too, if she’s that liberal a spender.
There are some school districts in other states that make parents PAY for the bus. We should be good stewards of the budget we have.
The only one endorsed by HCEA that can be considered a career politician is Mary-Dulany James. Beverly has only served one term in another office and the other four are first time candidates. The decision to adjust magnet transportation was a recommendation by the Superintendent in order to reduce the numbers of teacher positions that were eliminated that year. Would you prefer art and music programs be eliminated, or specific sports be eliminated as we have seen at area colleges? What courses or programs would you have been willing to sacrifice for the relatively few students that participate in magnet programs. These students were still provided transportation just no longer door to door.
It looks like this is a compilation of endorsements generally affecting the lower end of the county. It is clear that some of the endorsements and related information was supplied by the candidates themselves. Maybe that would explain why there is nothing about Ms. Runyeon listed. I am sure HCEA had their reasons for not giving Ms. Runyeon their endorsement. As to the transportation issue I believe every member of the BOE supported the Superintendent’s recommendation to make those changes.
What’s the Parent’s Choice of Maryland been smoking, and do they have a prescription for it?
Jeff Gahler should have separated himself from Marc Eaton from the beginning. By not doing so he allowed Marc’s comments to reflect poorly on himself. When Jeff loses the election he can look back and see that his two biggest mistakes were 1.) Marc Eaton and 2.) mud slinging way too early and never stating what his plans were with the office of the sheriff.
My comments hurt Gahler and yet you Baner’s continue to hide them. Now once again I use multiple names, same old tired talking points. Bane is so committed to being Sheriff that “if” wins he plans to step down and hope to get someone of his choice to become Sheriff. We all see that our comments make you guys nuts. I use my real name and you still hide behind fake ones. You know that Bane is loosing and you need to keep you name a secret for the new Administration. Man up, believe in Bane and use your real name already.
the school board is not afscme council 3, they are afscme council 67, This local 2471 does NOTHING! I have been a member for 20 years they DO NOTHING!
Marc, Hedley and Numerous Other Names Used:
Otherwise known as the 3 Stooges, Do your rating numbers give you any indication of what people think about your posts and motives? I encourage you all to continue your rants and logic.
DFC Eaton- did you ever think that the reason your comments are being hidden is because people are sick of you? Two years of character assassinating attacks on Jesse Bane has truly made you look foolish. Where have you and Jeff been for the past month, why all the sudden an influx of comments from you? Did something recently happen? Keep up the great work DFC Rambo Eaton.
No, you all just need to hide facts because you can’t dispute them. I see desperation by the hiding of comments. When liberals can’t defend themselves the resort to name calling and acting like kids. I guess you don’t know me because if you did you would know this does not bother me. I feed off of it and it only encourages me, so keep it coming kids.
Marc, oh, Marc,
Please keep on posting.
Marc, my balls itch. Do you mind moving your nose? I need to scratch them.
My sources tell me Eaton is having a 90% off sale on Jeff Gahler Sheriff custom pens. Is this true Marc?
Is Marc Eaton Howard Walters son??
Yeah, he is Walter’s little bastard.
You all reflect the Bane image in the comments you make. You don’t dispute facts you just name call and act like children. You make Bane proud.
bOO hOO, bOO hOO. Poor little bastard, Marc.
