The Harford County Public Library is celebrating Good Nutrition Month this November with a special Foodie Week! Join us for programs that celebrate the variety of food and part food plays in our daily lives.
Two-time Pulitzer Prize nominated columnist Leah Eskin kicks-off the week with stories from her Chicago Tribune column “Home on the Range” and her memoir/cookbook, Slices of Life: A Food Writer Cooks through Many a Conundrum. Leah will be speaking and signing copies of her book at the Abingdon Library at 2pm on Sunday, November 9th. This program is supported by the Harford County Cultural Arts board.
On Wednesday, November 12th there are two programs to choose from. The Aberdeen Library is celebrating with “Spice it Up! A History of Spices” presented by McCormick & Co.’s Jerry Kahan, an expert in the history and use of spices. Wander through this fascinating world and learn how spices have played a part in health, wars, religion, and food! If tea is more your thing then head over to the Jarrettsville Library to join in on the “Tea with a Twist: Cooking with Tea” program. Both programs run from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.
Join the delicious journey of Julia Child presented by Mary Ann Jung at the Fallston Library on Thursday, November 13th. Spend your evening engaged in Julia’s passion for cooking and for her husband. The evening is sure to be a lively recipe for fun. Please call the Fallston Library to register for this program at 410-638-3003. Program begins at 6:30 pm.
Children’s author Lulu Delacre joins Foodie Week on Saturday, November 15th starting at 2:00 pm at the Edgewood Library. Lulu explores how special foods spark fond family memories and how these memories can be transformed into stories for children. This is a family workshop – children get to learn about illustration and draw, while parents talk and write about the family’s food traditions. A great family event! This program is supported by the Harford County Cultural Arts board.
The Library winds up the week with a bit of naughty nutrition! Grab a seat on Sunday, November 16th at the Bel Air Library starting at 2:00 pm to meet the winner of Cupcake Wars, Jason Hisley! What does it take to be a great baker, a successful small business owner and compete in Food Network pastry competitions? Just ask Jason. He will be talking about his journey to cupcake success.
