From Harford County Government:
BEL AIR, Md., (Dec. 22, 2014) – Two founding members of the Harford County Cultural Arts Board, Dee Schuette and Sara Margaret Hodge, were recognized for over 80 years of combined service at a December 8 gathering of the arts community in Bel Air. More than 50 guests, including many members of the Harford County arts community, attended the event and reception held at the Harford Artists Gallery at Rockfield Manor.
Dee Schuette has been an advocate for the arts and education communities for over five decades. As a founding member of the Cultural Arts Board in 1973, she played a key role in the advancement of the Board as the premier local resource for arts, cultural and historical organizations, for individual artists, and the residents of Harford County. During her 40-year tenure on the Board, she served as both chair and vice chair on multiple occasions. She was instrumental in the development of the coordinator position that enabled the Board to better serve citizens and artists in the community.
Sara Margaret Hodge was also one of the Board’s 14 founding members, committing more than 40 years of service to promoting, preserving, and enhancing the arts in Harford County. Notably, Ms. Hodge, a music teacher at Churchville Elementary School for many years, helped develop Harford County’s first music curriculum.
“Harford County Government is deeply grateful for the enduring contributions of Ms. Schuette and Ms. Hodge. We are honored by their commitment, public service and ardent community spirit,” Harford County Executive Barry Glassman said in a statement.
Amber Shrodes, director of the Department of Community Services, represented County Executive Glassman at the event.
The Harford County Council provided proclamations to Ms. Schuette and Ms. Hodge, now Harford County Cultural Arts Board members emeritus, at the reception.
“I am thrilled to celebrate the service of Ms. Schuette and Ms. Hodge,” said Councilman Chad Shrodes. “Through their support, advocacy and partnership, the Board has expanded its mission, reach, and accomplishments immeasurably!”
