Isn’t it “racist” to require the applicant to be a U.S. citizen? I mean, if we don’t even require voters to show ID when they show up at the polls, how can it be required for someone like “Miss Bel Air”? Where is the ACLU! Where’s Sharpton! This is an outrage!
SoulCrusher says
Its not racist, its discriminatory. Requiring the applicant to be a US citizen implies nothing about race, yet it discriminates against candidates who are not US citizens. However, the rules are plain and if the Bel Air Independence Day Committee does not want their representative to be a citizen of another country, then that is their prerogative. Personally, I have no problem with a rule that requires a representative from the town of Bel Air to be a US citizen. After all, it is a US town…..

Can males who feel they are females apply?

What didn’t you understand about the first rule? I do believe anatomy is the criteria here….

Slight typographical error — July 4, 2015 is a SATURDAY, not a Friday. Our apologies.
Also — the rules for eligibility are those of the Miss Maryland organization, a feeder pageant to the Miss America organization. All lower level groups, associations, entities, etc., that are approved to send a “Miss Whatever” on the next level must agree to abide by the overall Miss America rules. These are all private, non-governmental entities, 501(c)3 category.
We have been very fortunate to have had 4 excellent representatives as Miss Bel Air since we added this function, and we are looking forward to meeting this year’s applicants (we already have 2).
