From the Aberdeen Police Department:
Aberdeen, MD – On Sunday, March 1, 2015, at approximately 1307 hours, Corporal Shannon Persuhn and Officer First Class Robert Tice of the Aberdeen Police Department’s Patrol Division, responded to 117 S. Law Street Aberdeen, Maryland for a reported possible heroin overdose.
The 24 year old male victim was located and found unconscious, breathing and making snoring sounds. Both officers immediately administered their issued Naloxone Nasal spray, also known as NARCAN to counteract the effects of the overdose. The patient did recover after receiving the NARCAN and was transported to Harford Memorial Hospital by Aberdeen EMS.
This incident resulted in the first successful save due to the diligence, quick thinking and recent training of both officers on scene in the use and administering of Naloxone Nasal Spray.
The Aberdeen Police Department is committed to making a difference in citizen’s lives and by providing someone a second chance at life there is hope and it may encourage people to seek treatment.

Good work by APD. Now, place the patient under arrest.
SHARON says
And I don’t want to pay for your rehab. Take responsibility for yourself and grow up.
K says
First of all, I hope the man wasn’t just sound asleep, based on the snoring. My spouse sounds like that every night. My second thought, I hope the man has insurance to cover the hospital bill and ambulance ride. I wasn’t aware of the need to be hospitalized after the administration of Narcan. This sounds like a very expensive public program. Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just wipe out the poppy fields?
Helen Hunt says
The Taliban did wipe those fields out, we spent billions of dollars and thousands of lives bringing them back.
Applesauce says
You have that backwards, Helen.
blah says
K, I understand what you’re saying but arcane is only effective for about 20-30 minutes. Enough times for medics to get there. Not a solution to the drug problem but it can help save lives in the short term.
blah o says
*narcan
Ted from Riverside says
Good job BUT this is just a band aid for a much larger problem. Like it or not Heroin has taken over this county. Now either we sit here and pretend like it’s not a problem and people keep dying, or we figure out what the hell is going on that is causing such a high rate of heroin addiction in Harford County. Wake up this is everywhere. It causes trouble in the community like thefts from houses and cars….etc Don’t think just because you live in Fallston or North Harford that you are immune. In fact there is a bigger problem in richer communities because they have more money to support the habit.

The drug dealer who sold the heroin sends his/her many thanks for saving their customer. Trust me, the customer will return.
The rise in heroin use here and many other places is due to the reduction of the many pill mills that had previously existed in Florida. People who use drugs in an illegal manner will always finds something to feed their desire.

First, thank you to Corporal Persuhn and OFC Tice for their quick action. Also thank you for not judging the individual before administering life saving aid. You may have saved the life of someone who finds recovery and goes on to greatness – or you may have prolonged the life of someone who struggles, never finds a solution and is plagued with pain and addiction for the remainder of their life. But you didn’t judge and I’m sure that young mans mother thanks you and I thank you for saving a human life.

You saved his body, can you save his mind?

To the negative comments made about this… I am sure you know someone who has been or is addicted to some kind of substance. Addiction is a fatal disease…I know this first hand. Don’t go judging others for mistakes that they have made. Addiction doesn’t discriminate. Who knows…you could be the next victim of it. So before you sit there on your high horse thinking you are better than anyone realize that you are not exempt…no one is.
Barbara says
Not being addicted to drugs or never having tried illegal drugs does not make me better than those who do drugs but it certainly makes me different from them.
“Addiction is a fatal disease….I know this first hand.” Did you die and return to life?
Alt says
Most of the people who know first hand are people who have lost a family member to addiction. You can’t be with your loved ones 24/7 to protect them from themselves. Please try to stop being a sarcastic jerk.
Jackii Jstarr says
Yes actually I have… And unless you have ever lived that life you would never understand. But luckily there is help available to people. Just because someone is an addict doesn’t make them a bad person…

I am addicted to being awesome, is that illegal?
Don Don says
It is true about what they say, addiction can and does find its way into unsuspecting lives. I was a straight laced awesome cop and after an on the job accident, I was out on pain killers and next thing ya know I’m shooting heroin in the back alley in Baltimore city after my truck broke down on 95, calling a cab to take me to my dealer, then finding a quiet alley to do my thing. It’s an ugly disease. Thankfully I have been clean now for sometime, but you best believe I still need help and will for probably the rest of my life in dealing with this. I am happy those officers did what they were trained to do, they should get an award, I nearly saved a life on the job, but no award for me because I was just found out I was a junkie. One day at a time.
