From the Aberdeen Police Department:
All members of the Aberdeen Police Department, in the near future, will be issued Tactical Riot Gear as part of their standard issued equipment. The purchase of forty (40) Tactical Riot Gear kits demonstrates the commitment of the City of Aberdeen to properly equip its police officers with personal body protection equipment, in the event of civil unrest.
Recently, the Aberdeen Police Department responded to events in Baltimore City as part of a unified law enforcement response to civil unrest and violence. During that deployment Aberdeen Police Officers relied on equipment provided by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office for personal protection. It became immediately apparent to Aberdeen Police Command Staff that individually issued crowd control equipment was needed to enhance the safety of all of its members, and to ensure a proper response to incidents that would require the need for such equipment in the future.
Officers of the Aberdeen Police Department have received training in crowd control response, and the procurement of this equipment will augment any police response in the event of civil unrest.
