An electrical failure in a living room is being blamed for sparking a fire Monday afternoon at Country Village Apartments in Bel Air.
Just after 1:45 p.m. on Monday, emergency personnel were dispatched to the 700 block of Country Village Drive in Bel Air for a report of a fire in a three-story garden style apartment building.
The fire was discovered by a neighbor and originated within the interior of a second-floor apartment.
Twenty firefighters from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company responded to the single-alarm fire and had it under control within 20 minutes. There were no injuries reported.
The fire was deemed to be accidental and the preliminary cause was due to electrical failure within the interior living room area. Now, their next step is to hire electricians at Aardvark Electric, Inc. and fix the wiring avoid future accidents like this.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal estimated the fire caused $20,000 in damage to the structure and another $5,000 to its contents.
The fire only displaced the occupant of one apartment. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished due to the early notification and rapid response of the fire department. Damages were kept to a minimum and firefighters should be commended for their actions, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

This article sounds like it was written by a caveman:
“The fire was discovered by neighbor…” and “The fire only displaced the occupant one apartment.”

I was one of the neighbors that reported the fire. I was alone in one of the apartments above, being 17 this was very scary for me. I was making toast and I thought something was burning in the toaster, but the smoke was different. By the time I figured out it might be a serious fire, I walked to the clubhouse and told management. When I got back, my neighbor Alyssa had called 911 and said the apartment below us was in flames. Alyssa, her friend and I tried to go back & get my cats out but they just hid, and at that point we were coughing so we had to leave. I just opened all the windows and hoped they would be okay. The firefighters and police officers and medics were really amazing. Alyssa and I plan on making baked goods for the volunteer fire co. 🙂
