From the Harford County Chamber of Commerce:
On Wednesday, March 22nd, ten student entrepreneurs took the stage to present their business plans before a panel of local leaders of industry and a public audience. Sponsored and hosted by Harford’s Business Edge and the Harford County Office of Economic Development, the event was held in The GROUNDFLOOR at Harford; the perfect venue to showcase and celebrate the hard work of some of the county’s young entrepreneurs. The students were dressed as young professionals, and were ready to wow the crowd.
Ten students in grades 6 through 12, each representing their very own businesses or social movements from the Harford County Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), had six minutes to pitch their business plans “Shark Tank” style to prominent local members of the business community during the program’s annual YEA! Investor Panel Event. The Investor Panel was comprised of prominent local business people, including:
Matthew Iannelli, CEO & Sr. Systems Engineer, Netorian LLC
Burke Bowers, Vice President-Relationship Manager, Howard Bank
Frank P. Kellner, Vice President-Claims & Corporate Secretary, Harford Mutual Insurance
Based on the appeal and merit of the students’ plans and presentations, the investor panel judges determined which businesses or social movements to award funding. The investors also selected one business to advance to the Young Entrepreneurs Academy Saunders Scholars Competition, where they will compete with students across the United States for college scholarships.
Congratulations to all of the Harford County YEA! students and thank you to all of the sponsors, volunteers, and supporters of the 2016-2017 Harford County YEA! program.
