From the Office of the Governor of Maryland:
Governor Larry Hogan today announced that the administration is making $38,390,961 in grants available for local roads in Baltimore City and municipalities and counties from Western Maryland to the Eastern Shore. The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) has released the application that needs to be submitted by August 31. The grants will be awarded to jurisdictions based on the existing formula for the distribution of Highway User Revenues (HURs).
“Since the beginning of our administration, we have been committed to investing in roads and bridges across the state,” said Governor Hogan. “Our local jurisdictions rely on these crucial funds for long-overdue road projects that impact the safety and quality of life of our citizens.”
The Hogan administration has invested $14.8 billion in the state’s Consolidated Transportation Plan, including nearly $8 billion towards roads and bridges throughout our state. Across MDOT, from the Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore and the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport to highways and toll facilities, we have nearly 1,000 projects totaling $9 billion currently under construction. For the past three years, Governor Hogan has fought to return HURs to past levels after being severely reduced by the previous administration. Despite these efforts, the funding has been cut significantly and consistently by the Maryland General Assembly.
The $38.4 million in grants are in addition to the estimated $177 million in Highway User Revenues that Maryland counties and municipalities are set to receive in fiscal year 2018. These new funds for local roads are above and beyond Maryland’s current $8 billion six-year investment in state roads and bridges.
“We encourage you to get your applications in quickly so we can get this funding to you, where it can make a difference for all Marylanders across the state,” said Transportation Secretary Pete Rahn.
To be considered for the grant funds, county and municipal leaders will sign and return the Transportation Grant Application Form. These signed applications certify that jurisdictions will participate in the grant and use the funds only on transportation projects. Great, more of out tax dollars doled out to developer idiots to build crap just to enrich themselves, like traffic circles that serve no purpose except to snarl traffic and cause accidents, or the $900k bridge over dry land on Rt. 7 that flooded out yesterday.
FOOK says
The fuck does the bridge “flooding” out have to do with anything?
+2.5″ of rain in less than an hour is going to be a lot of water in any low area/watershed, regardless.

CORRECTION: our tax dollars

Just because you can’t understand a simple concept like traffic roundabouts, you really shouldn’t display your ignorance in public like this. They improve traffic flow, reduce accidents, and lessen the severity of injuries. Try looking it up. Google is your friend, and if appears that you could probably use some.
FOOK says
Does it fucking matter? People still crash at traffic round abouts.
Literally hundreds of people driving Harford County roads under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, prescribed drugs (when they shouldn’t be driving) and having medical emergencies like diabetic comas.
The best I’ve seen is when patients leave the opioid treatment facilities. I’ve seen two of those assholes nearly involved in Manor collisions if the presumably sober (other) driver didn’t take evasive action.
Observation says
The big issue with “round abouts” are people still. People not paying attention and people in a hurry.
As you made point, observe the “round about” at the ‘Holly Woods’ on Route 7/Aberdeen.
Poor visibility blocked by vegetation and those big “Holly woods” signs.
The big issue I encounter here are people leaving the neighborhood to get onto Route 7 don’t yield, they drive 40mph into the roundabout from their 25mph neighborhood road regardless if there are cars already in the roundabout or not.
Observation says
And an example is;
You’re in either direction of Route 7, slowing down at the “Round about” you’re clear, you start to negotiate the curvature and some asshole with New Jersey tags on their car appears out of no where (poor visibility) driving 40mph cutting you off, forcing you to brake inside the “Round about.”
This is a continuous 1st world problem I’ve experienced here.
