Myers: For A Good Time, Drink This

By Tom Myers

If you believe that I am just a regular man about the town on New Year’s Eve, sitting in an elegant club in a major city, sipping champagne at the drop of midnight while having a woman on each arm laughing at everything I say, then I’m sorry to disappoint. Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s not for lack of trying. This past New Year’s weekend was met with the possibility of – you guessed it – frozen precipitation. This weather would have made driving so perilous that the drivers who aren’t driving slow and swerving around the road due to intoxication are ...Continue Reading

Filed as Blogs, The Chew with 5 comments

Ah, the wearing of the green…the lads and lassies twirl about the parking lots and insane asylums with all manner of green apparel…

The little munchkins tromp out from under the Billy Goat Gruff’s lair…and the evil Troll casts spells far and wide…

Being Scots-Irish the coming weekend is a special event for me…not that I’m slowing down as age 70 approaches, but I’ve had to take in the reins a bit over the many years of celebrating my heritage and the heritage of anyone else at the bar…

Bill Watch – Last Call For Drinking Events In Baltimore?

This Thursday, the Maryland State Senate will be voting to pass new legislation to stop all drinking games at bars. While the legislation focuses on a 2-year, city-wide ban on bars promoting or holding Beer Pong events, the last paragraph (below) is open for interpretation and may cause many drinking events at bars within the city limits to become defunct.

The official online version of the bill can be found here: http://mlis.state.md.us/2009rs/bills/sb/sb0233f.pdf.

Some people are arguing that there is no need for such a bill, as there are many laws in place already to stop binge drinking in bars, and are emailing Sen. George W. Della to tell him about their displeasure.

Here are a few of those letters:

Maryland State Senators,

I am writing to you today in regard to a piece of legislation which has already come across your desk.

On 12 February 2009, you will be asked to vote on SENATE ...Continue Reading
