(Harford County, MD – August 4, 2009) – Harford County Sheriff L. Jesse Bane has formalized an agreement with the “A Child is Missing” alert program that has allowed a high tech method to be implemented to search locally for missing children, missing elderly (often with Alzheimer’s), college students, and missing persons who may be mentally, emotionally, or physically challenged or disabled.
Upon receiving a missing person call, Sheriff’s deputies will make one of their first phone calls to a toll free number in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This call, answered 24/7, 365 days a year by a technician at “A Child is Missing”, initiates a rapid process of information gathering and sophisticated mapping systems which expedites thousands of phone calls within minutes to the surrounding area. The phone call includes a recorded message detailing the missing person’s description and last known whereabouts. The message ...Continue Reading

The following letter was sent to County Executive David Craig, County Councilman Dion Guthrie, Del. B. Dan Riley and the Edgewood Community Council, along with The Dagger.
The Edgewood Community Council meeting last Wednesday got pretty heated towards the end. Since I’ve spoken up about Dwight Madison’s death at the Harford County Detention Center, I’ve been attacked by some people and asked by many people why I care so much about this “issue”. Why am I willing to piss off the Sheriff, County Executive and our Elected Officials over the death of one “homeless” man? Why? Because I believe each and every person is precious and that we ultimately help ourselves when we help our brothers thrive. Let me explain using Matthew 13:3-23 which says:

Upon catching wind of another “tax revolt” being planned, in conjunction with the Harford County Council meeting in Bel Air Tuesday night, the County Executive’s office launched a counter-offensive this week – ordering pro-budget paraphernalia to be printed and recruiting members of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office to fill the council chambers with support for the budget.
The TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party on Tuesday is being arranged by the same group who organized the effort in Havre de Grace last month. With tax day now in the books, the group is focusing on another little-understood and often incorrectly-attributed tax increase – the constant yield tax rate.
The Constant Yield concept is that, as assessments rise, the tax rate should drop to the point that the revenue derived from the property tax stays at a constant level from one year to the ...Continue Reading
The Harford County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports of thefts from vehicles in the Bel Air/ Fallston areas. Most of these thefts have occurred in neighborhoods during the late night/early morning hours. Please remember to lock your cars, even in the driveway, and remove or hide all valuables. A good rule to remember is “if the factory didn’t install it, it should not be visible.” You should report all suspicious people and/or vehicles to the Sheriff’s Office immediately via 911.
