HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. (Mar. 12, 2010) – The Quilters at Bulle Rock live at The Residences of Bulle Rock and meet bimonthly at the resort-style community’s Residents’ Club to celebrate their love of quilts and quilting. While socializing and sharing their skills, ideas and tips, they have completed seven quilts during the past year.
Along with adeptly using their hands, the Quilters have poured their hearts and souls into every stitch. Their finished products were colorful and decorative displays of art; but, more importantly, they were works of love to bring comfort and hope to those in need.
Supporting The Troops
Six Bulle Rock quilts were crafted for the Quilts For Injured Soldiers Project, which sends quilts, Afghans and fleece blankets – from all over the United States, Canada and Australia – to Andrews Air Force Base, the first stop for most American soldiers returning from overseas.
From January 2000 to December 2009, Harford County enjoyed an historic housing boom, then suffered through historic economic downturn.
Harford was the big winner in the U.S. Army’s Base Realignment and Closure decision, but has yet to experience any meaningful impact from BRAC other than the headaches and problems associated with preparing for the anticipated growth.
Harford lost many familiar faces who passed away doing what they loved most in the last decade, but also saw several who left the scene for more nefarious reasons.
Havre de Grace saw a major international golf tournament arrive and depart, and watched as its Promenade was destroyed and rebuilt.
Harford hero Cal Ripken, Jr. retired from baseball, built a stadium in his hometown, and was elected to the Hall of Fame, while ice skater Kimmie Meissner propelled herself toward Harford hero status with her Olympic performance.

Two weeks after it was unanimously approved by the city council, the Mixed Office/Equipment Zoning ordinance, which would bring new hotels, offices and retail development to Route 155 and Bulle Rock Parkway, has been vetoed by Havre de Grace Mayor Wayne Dougherty – ostensibly because he says the plan should also include a new baseball/football/soccer field.
The city council approved the MOE Ordinance with a six-to-zero vote on Dec. 1, yet on Monday, Dec. 15, Dougherty issued a memo announcing he was vetoing the ordinance and offering his explanation why.
