If you’re like me, then you know reality is very tedious. It’s tireless, inescapable, humdrum and repetitive. It gives a cynical edge to the many thoughts I have. As a result, I have to make all of those thoughts funny. I’m a comedian. That’s kind of my job. However, I tend to have a change of mood when Christmastime rolls around every year. Even to a cynical comedian such as myself, I recognize that the month of December is different from the other months in a good way. I guess it has something to do with the fact that working in the evenings gives me the freedom to do my Christmas shopping in the mornings and early afternoons when everybody else is at work. The only people with whom I compete over parking spaces and the race to the checkout counter are the elderly, stay-at-home mothers and small ...Continue Reading
Towson, MD (December 18, 2009) – This Christmas/New Year’s holiday nearly 2.1 million (2,069,000) Marylanders, over a third (37 percent) of the state’s population will travel 50 miles or more roundtrip this Christmas/New Year’s holiday.
“The 2009 year-end holiday forecast reflects the largest number of Maryland travelers for any of the major holidays of this year,” said Ragina C. Averella, AAA Mid-Atlantic Manager of Public & Government Affairs. “Additionally, it is the second highest number of local Christmas/New Year’s travelers we’ve seen over the past 10 year period. However, despite the incredible volume of travelers, our projection reflects a four percent decline compared to the 2009 holiday, which had the highest reported volume of residents traveling this decade.”
Last year nearly 2.2 million (2,155,000) Marylanders traveled for the Christmas-New Year’s period, according to data from IHS Global Insight, which conducts travel research for AAA. ...Continue Reading

(Bel Air, MD – November 25, 2009) – - Harford County Executive David R. Craig and the Division of Agriculture are reminding Harford’s families that “Buying Local” this holiday season starts with a visit to one of the county’s Christmas tree farms.
Harford County tree farms offer many varieties of high-quality pine, fir, and spruce. You can either choose-and-cut your own tree in the field, or select one that has already been cut.
Most of the farms offer other products such as wreaths, holiday crafts, baked goods, and refreshments. Some also have petting zoos, hayrides, and train rides. Even Santa Claus himself has been known to visit some of these farms on occasion to meet the children.
“Harford County Christmas tree farms provide families the opportunity to experience the holidays on a farm, and to take part in lots of different fun activities,” remarked John Sullivan, III, Deputy Chief of ...Continue Reading
The holiday season is upon us and Harford County Sheriff’s Office will be intensifying their regularly scheduled patrols with their Annual Holiday Foot Patrol Initiative. For the seventh consecutive year, beginning December 1, 2009, Sheriff’s deputies will be conducting both foot and vehicular patrols of shopping centers and retail plazas in their jurisdiction. The intent is to deter crime and make the holidays much safer for the citizens of Harford County. In addition to deputies on patrol, Harford County Sheriff’s Office Command Staff will be taking to the streets as well.
“This provides commanders an excellent opportunity to meet with the business community and citizens that we serve,” comment Sheriff L. Jesse Bane.
“Often during this busy time of the year, when people are already being pulled in too many directions or feeling especially festive, they stop paying attention to their surrounding and personal safety,” stated ...Continue Reading

The day after Christmas is traditionally a day of relaxation. It’s a time to unwind, decompress and pick up the pieces after surviving another hectic holiday season.
That was generally the case this Friday, which was no different than any other ‘day-after-Christmas’ in the past – that is, until an earthquake of moderate magnitude moderately shook up and woke up residents of Harford County living along the Pennsylvania state line.
If you missed the Second Annual Bulle Rock Turkey Trot this Thanksgiving morning, there are still ways to give something back to the Susquehanna Hose Company and all the other local fire, rescue, police and military agencies and personnel who give so much to us 365 days a year.
The Turkey Trot is a 5K route through Bulle Rock in Havre de Grace organized by HeartSmart with all funds going toward the purchase of new fire and rescue equipment for the Susquehanna Hose Company.
