The following letter was sent by Roy Whiteley, president of Marylanders for Fair Property Taxation:
Last evening we were privileged to speak before an estimated 3,000 cold, but determined, enthusiastic, patriots assembled in Lawyers Square in front of the State Capitol to join in voicing the concerns of a constituency dissatisfied with the way our government is operating.
A number of organizations lead by Americans for Prosperity together with Campaign for Liberty, Institute for Liberty, Annapolis, Bel Air, Cecil County and Hagerstown Tea Party, Marylanders for Fair Property Taxation, Maryland Taxpayers Association and others provided several hours of specific, high spirited rhetoric aimed at one theme. We are watching your actions during this legislative session. We are in tough economic conditions and you need to listen to us and act appropriately. Many legislators and former Governor Bob Erhlich were in the audience. Prior to the 7 PM rally, we had the ...Continue Reading
From January 2000 to December 2009, Harford County enjoyed an historic housing boom, then suffered through historic economic downturn.
Harford was the big winner in the U.S. Army’s Base Realignment and Closure decision, but has yet to experience any meaningful impact from BRAC other than the headaches and problems associated with preparing for the anticipated growth.
Harford lost many familiar faces who passed away doing what they loved most in the last decade, but also saw several who left the scene for more nefarious reasons.
Havre de Grace saw a major international golf tournament arrive and depart, and watched as its Promenade was destroyed and rebuilt.
Harford hero Cal Ripken, Jr. retired from baseball, built a stadium in his hometown, and was elected to the Hall of Fame, while ice skater Kimmie Meissner propelled herself toward Harford hero status with her Olympic performance.
The following letter was received from Patrick McGrady:
On Monday, November 16, 2009 the Route 40 Republican Club hosted it’s first fundraising event at the Wetlands Golf Club in Aberdeen. More than 250 people attended the dinner and by 6:00PM the only space left was standing room.
Stephen Wright, the President of the Route 40 Republican Club spoke about the resurgence of conservative values in Harford County. Delegate Pat McDonough spoke next, saying that if Ehrlich were to run for Governor he would support him, but if he made the “wrong” choice (and chose not to run), McDonough would run for Governor. Delegate Rick Impallaria spoke next and continued to pump up the audience for the honored guest.
The featured speaker at the dinner was Maryland Governor Bob Ehrlich. Ehrlich spoke about taking back Maryland because even though “Maryland is the bluest state,” there is great opportunity to change the way government operates ...Continue Reading

With just a few days left until the election, the endorsements are coming in for the 1st District Congressional race between Andy Harris and Frank Kratovil.
The first letter of endorsement is from former-governor Bob Ehrlich, whose name now graces many of Harris’ campaign signs:
In the following Letter to The Dagger, Lynne Parry tells a compelling story about her life as a police survivor and her frustrating personal experience with the Edward T. Conroy Memorial Scholarship program, which was designed to assist the families of fallen heroes with the cost of college in Maryland. When Lynne’s sons were put on the Scholarship’s waiting list for lack of state funding, she reached out to elected officials for help.
Several years ago, after asking a group of school children touring our nation’s Capitol what Memorial Day meant to them and getting the response, “That’s the day the pools open,” a distraught Carmella LaSpada knew she needed to do something. She needed to start a mission.
So LaSpada, founder of No Greater Love, an organization devoted to promoting the true meaning of Memorial Day, contacted Harford County Del. B. Dan Riley for help with her mission. That mission, quite simply, is get people to remember Memorial Day. Here is a description of the organization from the No Greater Love web site:
Founded in 1971, NGL is the only humanitarian, educational, non-profit organization in the United States solely dedicated to providing annual programs of friendship and care for those who lost a loved one in the service to our country or by an act of terrorism.
The MoBseen: Life’s observations as seen through the eyes of Mark.
We, the voters of the Free State, will have the chance to vote on slots coming to Maryland.
Current polling by Gonzales Research & Marketing Strategies and the Washington Post Polling suggest that Maryland residents are in favor of Maryland slots and those favoring slots continue to outnumber those opposing slots. The question remains of course, where to put the parlors and who will be the beneficiary of the millions generated by this new gambling.
I should point out to those opposed to Maryland slots that we already have gambling in Maryland and on a very broad scale; We have The Lottery, Lotto, The Daily Pick 3, The Daily Pick 4, (twice a day!) Bonus Match 5, Mega Millions, Multi Match, Racetrax, Maryland Hold’em, Keno, Scratch-Offs, and of course horse racing. We also have Off Track ...Continue Reading
