McGrady: “The Purpose of Government is to Defend the Freedoms of the Citizens”

The following letter was received from Patrick McGrady, a Republican candidate for the House of Delegates in District 34A.

Editor,

Governor O’Malley’s State of the State address provided me with an interesting insight into the view of government in Maryland.

There were several issues of concern in this speech, but the biggest was in the conclusion of the speech where Marvelous Martin expressed that government is the answer to the question of how to “create greater freedom,” among other things.

Government does not create freedoms. The United States Declaration of Independence says that the citizens of the United States are “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights…” Even our own Maryland Declaration of Rights says “We, the People of the State of Maryland, grateful to Almighty God for our civil and religious liberty…”.

The purpose of government is to defend the freedoms of the citizens. Every elected official, when sworn in, promises to uphold ...Continue Reading

McGrady: Harford GOP Urges Ehrlich Toward Run For Governor

The following letter was received from Patrick McGrady:

On Monday, November 16, 2009 the Route 40 Republican Club hosted it’s first fundraising event at the Wetlands Golf Club in Aberdeen. More than 250 people attended the dinner and by 6:00PM the only space left was standing room.

Stephen Wright, the President of the Route 40 Republican Club spoke about the resurgence of conservative values in Harford County. Delegate Pat McDonough spoke next, saying that if Ehrlich were to run for Governor he would support him, but if he made the “wrong” choice (and chose not to run), McDonough would run for Governor. Delegate Rick Impallaria spoke next and continued to pump up the audience for the honored guest.

The featured speaker at the dinner was Maryland Governor Bob Ehrlich. Ehrlich spoke about taking back Maryland because even though “Maryland is the bluest state,” there is great opportunity to change the way government operates ...Continue Reading

McGrady: Tea Party Against Impact Fee, “This Tax Isn’t About Schools, It’s About Jobs”

The following letter was received from Tea Party organizer and House of Delegates candidate Patrick McGrady:

Editor,

Since July 2005, the Harford County government has levied an Impact Tax on every new home construction permit. The idea of the Impact Tax seems noble enough- the money raised from the tax goes into the Harford County Public Schools Capital Budget account so that it must be used only for new school development, property acquisition, or school renovation. These homebuyers are being unfairly double-taxed, this tax is keeping productive construction projects on hold, and this is keeping hard-working Harford County workers out of work on and State Unemployment rolls.

Here in Harford County, we pay property taxes at the County and municipal level. On a home that is assessed at $250,000, the annual County portion of taxes amount to $2,705. This tax amount is the property owner’s share of the County Government, including school construction. ...Continue Reading

McGrady Promises “Never To Vote For Tax Increases” If Elected To Delegation

The following was received from the campaign of Patrick McGrady:

Patrick McGrady, candidate for State Delegate in District 34A, held a campaign kick-off BBQ fundraiser this past Sunday, September 27th. More than 100 people attended the event at the historic Susquehanna Museum at the Lock House in Havre de Grace.

Mr. McGrady spoke about recent tax increases in Maryland, including a 20% increase in sales taxes and an 18% increase in the corporate tax.

He pledged never to vote for tax increases when in Annapolis. Knowing that Harford County has the third highest property tax rate in the state of Maryland, McGrady also pledged to seek internal changes to fix the Property Tax Assessment system in Maryland.

US Senate candidate Jim Rutledge spoke about McGrady’s dedication to action, citing an instance where he called Patrick to attend a rally in southern Maryland with only 10 minutes notice. Rutledge said McGrady’s response was “Where do ...Continue Reading

McGrady: Kratovil “Is Finally Waking Up From The Daze…”

Editor,

Representative Frank Kratovil, representing Maryland’s 1st Congressional District is finally waking up from the daze he has been in since January, or so it seems. I received a form letter from him that declared that he would make sure to read and understand the entire health care bill that is currently on the floor of the House before he votes. It is interesting to me that he has embraced this idea now, after he voted for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Stimulus Bill to the rest of us) and the American Clear Energy and Security Act of 2009 (Cap and Trade Bill) without reading either of them. It is quite unsettling to me that he, along with hundreds of other Congressmen and Congresswomen voted to support this legislation knowing what it says. How much money has to be on the line before they will realize ...Continue Reading

McGrady: “Kratovil Voted For Cap And Trade (Without Reading It)”

Hello Patriots!

The Tea Party movement is taking to the streets against MD Representative Kratovil! A self-defined “conservative democrat,” Kratovil voted for Cap and Trade (without reading it), for the “Stimulus” package (without reading it).

Let’s show him that we are not going to sit by while he votes to destroy our children’s future with higher taxes and more government programs! Join us in a protest and picket at Kratovil’s Bel Air office on August 11, 2009 from 4PM-6PM. Bring a sign or picket!

People will also be picketing tomorrow, on Tuesday July 28, 2009 from 11:00AM-1:30PM. If this suits your schedule, come out!

If you can’t make it, click this link to get in touch with Kratovil. His phone number is listed, as well as his address and a contact form! http://kratovil.house.gov/contact/index.shtml

Maybe if we express our opinions loudly enough, he will vote against the House Health Care bill! We need ...Continue Reading
