New Maryland State Record Cobia Caught Off Ocean City

Ocean City, MD – A Maryland angler, Chris Toner of Joppa, MD, has set a new Atlantic Division state record with a 72 pound cobia. The catch eclipsed the previous record of 67 pounds, 12 ounces set in 2007 by Mike Horsey.

“This record is evidence of the great fishing opportunities Maryland has to offer,” said Governor Martin O’Malley. “You never know what surprises you will come across while enjoying a day of fishing in Maryland’s waters.”

Chris and friends were aboard the charter boat “Fish Finder,” captained by Mark Sampson, who specializes in shark charters. The group was catch and release fishing at the Great Gull Shoal for sharks when the cobia appeared in the chum slick. Sen. Glassman Receives Legislator Of The Year Award From State Firemen

Ocean City, MD – Northern Harford County State Senator Barry Glassman (R-35) received the Senator William H. Amoss Memorial Legislative Award Tuesday at the Maryland State Firemen’s 117th Annual Convention in Ocean City. Senator Glassman, who thought he was presenting citations at the morning session, was surprised as he was introduced to the convention.

The Legislator of the Year Award recognizes an individual’s contributions and determination in promoting the betterment of Maryland Fire and Rescue and Emergency Services through successful legislation and the legislative process.

During his introduction by MSFA President Frank Underwood, Senator Glassman was commended for his leadership in defeating two proposals to privatize and dismantle Maryland’s medivac and trauma system.
