Will And All Us Dogs

With squatters on the East and squatters on the West, old Pilgrims north in Leeswood seem like old natives in this vastly different and rapidly changing world here at Rustica. The pup, Frisco, is doing fine, a little hardheaded, but a good dog. The feathery bantams, peafowl and Canada’s offer no playmates for this puppy that’s been here only six months.

Sanity And Sanctity Amid Ships Of Wood And Canvas

The Dagger | Harford County News With an Edge: Latest post

When you were 8 years old did you love to jump into big piles of sawdust? Did you and your dad scavenge old wooden fruit boxes for white pine that could be carved into World War 1 Spads and German fighter bombers? Carved from scrap wood into treasures of the heart and spirit the youngster learned to work with wood. He credits his dad, now 90, with instilling in him the love of wood and what one can do with it.

Silver Star And A Touchdown Or Two…

The Dagger | Harford County News With an Edge: Latest post

When Sam Sheetz was wounded pulling fellow infantrymen out of hostile fire in Vietnam he didn’t think of the homeruns he’d hit playing baseball as a youngster….or the touchdowns he scored playing halfback for Bel Air High School in the early ‘60’s….all the thoughts of homeruns or touchdowns were just as much a dream as the nightmare he was in right at that moment….

Never Discuss Politics Or Religion

The Dagger | Harford County News With an Edge: Latest post

My daddy always told me just that…and to ‘never, ever lie, cheat or steal’. With that thought in mind and the upcoming Presidential election looming in November it brought to mind my take on the whole deal.

First of all, I do not watch television in the morning or before noon or after noon…unless it’s the U.S. Open or weather. That’s a fact Jack.

When You Build Your Own Prison, You Gotta Do Your Own Time

And so it was at the Ram’s Head Tavern in Annapolis recently that Billy Bob Thornton…of “SlingBlade”, “Mr. Woodcock” and “A Simple Plan” made his way onstage to belt out ‘British Invasion of the 60’s played by Hill Billy’s…or “Mod-Country”…(his own description of the music for the first half of his sold out show).

Between songs BBT puffed on a cigarette and tackled a heckler or two…One of whom yelled, “Thanks for the smoke”…to which the errant Arkansas Ian quipped, “Well it’s not bad till you get with 30 feet of me…in the meantime why don’t you go outside, and beat your head against the side of our bus!”

Seemed So Much Simpler Then…

The Dagger | Harford County News With an Edge: Latest post

My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn’t seem to get food poisoning.

My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter AND I used to eat it raw sometimes too, but I can’t remember getting E-coli.

Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), the term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.

Thanks To A ‘Sports Medicine’ Guru Bel Air Gets A Concert From Dr. Ralph Stanley

The Dagger | Harford County News With an Edge: Latest post

Thanks to Doctor William H.B. Howard, famed for his sports medicine forefront work, a living legend of bluegrass made it to Bel Air Sunday afternoon and set the small venue on fire, backed by the Clinch Mountain Boys.

Turns out Dr. Howard (just call me Bill) has known and treated Ralph Stanley for years. ‘We’ve been pals a long time and my daughter, Patty, and me decided to ‘make it happen’ and approached the folks at John Carroll to provide the venue and take home the proceeds.” Dr. Howard is often seen on area television stations when sports injuries occur to professional athletes.
