Darlington Man Charged With Vehicular Manslaughter, DUI/DWI After Triple-Fatal Crash

From Maryland State Police:

(Bel Air, MD) – Charges resulting from a Harford County Grand Jury indictment were served by State Police this morning on a driver involved in a crash last month in which three people were killed.

The accused is identified as Travis N. Gray, 31, of the 3500-block of Day Road, Darlington, Md. He is charged with three counts each of vehicular manslaughter, negligent homicide while under the influence and negligent homicide while impaired. He is charged with one count each of driving while under the influence and driving while impaired.

Gray turned himself in to State Police CRASH Team investigators at 7:00 a.m. today at the Bel Air Barracks. After processing, he was taken to the Harford County Detention Center where he was incarcerated on $250,000 bond.

Twenty-Eight Cases Of Thefts From Motor Vehicles Solved By Wallets Left At Scene

(Abingdon, MD – November 19, 2009) On August 24, 2009, Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a complaint for recovered stolen property discovered near Federal Lane, in the Abingdon area of Harford County.

A number of wallets were located at the scene containing ID’s from various local Harford County residents. Further investigation led Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies to connect these items with other thefts from motor vehicles that had occurred this past summer.

Comprehensive crime analysis, in conjunction with other investigative techniques, allowed the Southern Precinct Investigative Unit to link and clear over twenty-eight open cases in the Abingdon, Bel Air and Belcamp areas of Harford County that had occurred throughout the month of August 2009.      To date, an assortment of CD’s, DVD’s, knives, cell phones and various electronic devices such as MP3 players, PDA’s, and navigational devices were recovered. Heavy Traffic Expected During Darlington Apple Festival

(Darlington, MD – October 2, 2009) The Harford County Sheriff’s Office is advising the public, that due to the Darlington Apple Festival, traffic delays are to be expected on Saturday October 3, 2009 both in and out of the Darlington area specifically, MD Rt. 1 (North & South bound) as well as MD Rt. 161. These delays will begin around 8:00 a.m. and occur until approximately 6:00 p.m on October 3, 2009.

There will be several parking lots located on MD Rt. 1 and MD Rt. 161 for Festival goers to park while attending the event. Shuttle service will be available to the Festival. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office is asking motorists, please be patient during this time.

Maryland State Police Aggressive Driving Initiative Yields Results On Harford Roads

(Churchville, MD): Results of Aggressive Driving Initiative.

During the week of September 14, 2009 the Maryland State Police conducted an “Aggressive Driving Initiative” in Harford County Maryland. The targeted enforcement areas were Route 136 (Whiteford Road) at Robinson Mill Road and Route 22 (Churchville Road) in the area of Campus Hills. Throughout this week Troopers issued 102 warnings and 35 citations. Violation ranged from speeding, following too closely, seatbelt violations, to a variety of other violations.

“We feel this was a successful operation not only from an enforcement perspective but from an education point of view as well” said Sgt. Jeff Kloiber. In the past there were several citizen complaints concerning school bus violations. According to Kloiber, “during this operation there were no complaints received.”

Department of Community Services and Harford Community College Celebrate Car-Free Day

(Bel Air, MD) – - The Harford County Department of Community Services’ Commuter Assistance Program will team with Harford Community College’s College Life Office to celebrate Car-Free Day on September 22, 2009.

Harford County’s Rideshare Coordinator will be on hand in the College’s Student Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22 to provide information and transportation options to help students and employees learn more about Harford Transit, as well as car and vanpooling options.

Although Car-Free Day is relatively new to Harford County, it is an international event celebrated every September 22. On this day people all over the world are encouraged to use public transit, bicycling, walking and all alternative modes of transportation such as riding in a carpool or vanpool instead of riding alone in their car.

Boy, 16, Charged With Running Over 12-Yr-Old Patterson Mill Student On School Lot

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office has filed charges against a 16-year-old boy who allegedly failed to stop the SUV he was driving and hit a 12-year-old student in the parking lot of Patterson Mill Middle/High School in Bel Air on Friday.

The female middle school student was treated and transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for a broken leg, but questions remain regarding the boy and the vehicle he was driving during the accident.

Middle School Student Hit By Vehicle Driven By High School Student At Patterson Mill

A middle school student was hit by a vehicle at Patterson Mill after high school let out, while the middle school was still in session. She was reportedly lifted on a body board and transported to the hospital.

Students at the school have reported that the vehicle was apparently driven by a 15-year-old, unlicensed high school student, and that it is owned by a custodian at the school.

The middle school student was in gym class at the time of the accident.

A somewhat cryptic Alert Now call went out to parents Friday night from Principal Wayne Thibeault who said:

“This afternoon at approximately 2:35PM a seventh grade student was struck by a motor vehicle on school property. The student was transported to Upper Chesapeake Medial Center in stable condition. Crime Alert! Theft from Vehicles” in Bel Air/Fallston Areas

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports of thefts from vehicles in the Bel Air/ Fallston areas. Most of these thefts have occurred in neighborhoods during the late night/early morning hours. Please remember to lock your cars, even in the driveway, and remove or hide all valuables. A good rule to remember is “if the factory didn’t install it, it should not be visible.” You should report all suspicious people and/or vehicles to the Sheriff’s Office immediately via 911.
