(Edgewood, MD – May 1, 2009) – Harford County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested Mack Kelly Porter, 19, and David Vernon Scott, 18, both of Edgewood, MD, in connection with a robbery which occurred on April 30, 2009.
On Thursday April 30, 2009 at 11:23 p.m. deputies responded to the Burger King located in the 1800 block of Edgewood Road, Edgewood, MD in reference to a robbery that just occurred. Deputies determined that at approximately 11:23 p.m. two male suspects entered the closed Burger King restaurant and confronted the night shift supervisor. The supervisor advised she was counting the day’s receipts when one of two black males walked into her office and grabbed her from behind and held her in a choke hold while the other suspect gathered the money and the supervisor’s cell phone. During the robbery the restaurant phones were disabled and computer equipment destroyed.
The male who grabbed the supervisor was described as 6’01”, weighing 160 lbs, wearing a dark green t-shirt and jeans. The second suspect was described as 5’08”, weighing 175 lbs, wearing a black t-shirt.
Deputies canvassed the area and located two males fitting the above description entering a taxi in front of a nearby hotel. Deputies approached the suspects and observed a large amount of currency fall from one of the suspects, later identified as Mack Porter. Both Porter and the second suspect, identified as David Scott, were detained for questioning. As a deputy was talking with Porter, Porter assaulted the deputy and a struggle ensued. Additional deputies arrived and assisted in placing Porter and Scott in custody. During the struggle Porter damaged the side view mirror of the taxi cab that he was attempting to enter.
The Burger King supervisor identified Porter and Scott as the suspects who robbed her. Porter was a former employee of the Burger King and was found with the access code to the rear door.
Mack Kelly Porter was charged with three counts of assault in the 2nd degree, burglary in the 2nd degree, burglary in the 4th degree, resisting arrest, theft under $500.00, malicious destruction of property valued at under $500.00, robbery, and theft over $500.00. Porter is currently being held at the Detention Center on a $250,000.00 bond.
David Vernon Scott was charged with robbery, theft over $500.00, burglary in the 2nd degree, burglary in the 4th degree, malicious destruction of property valued at over $500.00. Scott is currently being held at the Detention Center on a $100,000.00 bond.
