The following letter was received from Barbara Kreamer:
Aberdeen, Maryland: The two incumbent candidates ignored the people’s memo: lower the taxes. The taxpayers of Aberdeen were hit with at least a fifty-five percent increase in the tax bill in the Simmons administration, and the current government has increased the property tax burden. While the rate has gone down three cents over the past two years, rising assessments have more than offset that. This Council with the votes of the incumbent candidates could not even stick to a Constant Yield rate in a year of fiscal hardship for families in Aberdeen. The people of Aberdeen need someone who will stand up for their best civic interests and protect their financial resources. That is why I filed my candidacy yesterday for Mayor of Aberdeen.
The entire Aberdeen government is up for a vote on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 – and not a moment too soon. The current Mayor with one year’s experience in office proposed cancellation of the mayoral election of 2011 in order to create a four-year term. As if the City Council were not mired enough in groupthink, the Mayor’s proposed charter amendment would coerce conformity among the City Council and discourage their oversight activities. The incumbent tells me that he is “in the middle of things”. Does he intend to revive the charter amendment proposal if reelected? Does he intend to bring back the B & O office building proposal?
We need a Mayor who protects the revenue stream. There are charitable giveaways of tax funds, yet the City employees got no raise this year. From free water and sewer hookups to proposals for property tax-free housing, the incumbent candidates have foregone and want to forego more moneys due to the city treasury in their largesse. An expensive new trash truck whose price is as much as the assessed value of houses on West Bel Air Avenue will arrive soon after the city election. What other expenses do the incumbent candidates have in store for us?
We need sound law enforcement, and we need cost effective government. We need a Mayor who is as careful with the people’s budget as she is with her own frugal purse. We need a Mayor who will manage the cabinet and the workforce with praise and prudence.
The incumbent has given over too much authority to employees and proposes to give more. Aberdeen needs a Mayor who does not hesitate to speak up for the concerns of Aberdeen residents and does not shy away from negotiation and action in the fiscal interest of the people. If the record of achievement is strong, the voters will accord an elected official an additional term. The people of Aberdeen have given me strong support in several elections. Aberdeen’s core support was key in electing me to four years on the County Council representing District E and eight years in the Delegation to Annapolis representing the 34th District.
And I produced. The town park was my idea derived from an historic plat of Aberdeen showing two parks never built. Education improved. A major overhaul of the state pay system brought pay equity to female and minority-dominated jobs. Corporal punishment was eliminated from the public schools. Alternative education venues kept disruptive youth out of the front row but still furthering their education. The state government law of procurement was clarified and modernized with my leadership.
Now I ask Aberdeen voters to return me to office in a year that calls for strong leadership to advance the cause of Aberdeen in paring back the tax imbalance that discourages new BRAC residents and to bring good ideas to reality for fiscal devices that will ease the property tax burden on Aberdeen residents.
Aberdeen needs a growing tax base and more sophisticated economic development for prosperous commercial districts. We need focused planning and a more balanced inventory of housing. We need to spur our young people to educational achievement. An able workforce attracts enterprise. We need to enlist more citizens to volunteer for a lively social and cultural base. Many of us enjoy a high quality of life in Aberdeen, and I want more Aberdeen residents to share in that.
This is a non-partisan election. I invite volunteers to call me. My number has always been listed in the phonebook, and I have always been accessible to the people. I need help to turn out the vote for Barbara Osborn Kreamer on November 3rd. I invite citizens who want the experienced and intrepid leadership that I bring to this race to send contributions to “Friends of Barbara Kreamer”. Mail checks to my treasurer Anne Baker Dulik at 610 West Bel Air Avenue, Aberdeen, MD 21001.

This is certainly, going to be and interesting election for the ”New” Mayor of aberdeen.
DJ says
Wasn’t Kreamer recently disbarred for ‘engag(ing) in a pattern of conduct over her legal career which threatens the public’s confidence and trust in the legal profession’?
Steve says
According to http://www.courts.state.md.us/attygrievance/sanctions08.html:
KREAMER, Barbara Osborn – Disbarred for lack of competence, lack of diligence, failing to communicate with her client, charging unreasonable fee and making misrepresentations to clients.
Dave Yensan says
Thanks for that Steve.
David says
Wow. This is shaping up to be a truly shambolic election.
Al J Thong says
Kreamer can’t be elected but she sure will hurt Bennett. No one that would ever vote for Hiob would vote for Kreamer but she may be successful in splitting the old Aberdeen and fire company Bennett vote.
Being a Hiob supporter I say in all honesty, welcome Babs to the race.
ProudDemocrat says
Interesting… so you are admitting that the only way that Hiob is capable of beating a real candidate like Bennett is if a nonsence candidate enters to muddle things up a bit. Sad.
Dave Yensan says
No what he said was that the proud democrats who have never gotten their eyes fully opened will like Barbara as much as they like Bennett. Both of them have been very ineffective in public life, ergo good democrats.
ProudDemocrat says
EVERY major piece of social justice legislation passed since the 1930s has been a Democratic initiative. You are straight-faced lying to suggest that ‘ineffective in public life’ is the definition of a standard Democrat.
Dave Yensan says
I was not talking about the national level garbage of the 30s. That is another topic entirely. I’m talking about two extremely inefficient people who have demonstrated nothing useful whatsoever. To back them simply because they are registered as democrats is the sheep like drink of Kool-aid that is so disgusting.
Joe says
She was outside of the NHDC just prior to the meeting for endorsement. I talked with her very briefly, as I am not a citizen of Aberdeen. Good luck to all. I am impressed by her qualifications. However, I was not aware that she may have possibly been disbarred. Anyone have any info on this from a reliable source?
Marley says
Didn’t they find out that she was a crooked lawyer? Wouldn’t that qualify her to be head lawyer? DJ, you’re right she was disbarred after a long suspension. The words were something to the effect of not so much to punish her but to protect the public from her.
Phil Dirt says
A “crooked lawyer”? Isn’t that redundant?
Van Huesen says
This ain’t good for HIOB!
Question says
It was so nice for Ms. Krammer to point out all the problems with Aberdeen. WE ALL KNOW THESE ARE PROBLEMS BARBARA. Where are your solutions. They say that a problem well defined is half solved. Problem is that it appears that you don’t have the ability to solve the well stated problem, because if you did, you would put an original thought together and state some solutions for those problems. At least you can define the problem, unlike our current Mayor.
Feeless Groper says
I’ll give one thing to Ms Kreamer, she has accomplished more in her life than the current mayor. She managed to get disbarred which is no easy feat. Over the past few years one lawyer brought a gun to court; one urinated in a crowded bar; and one actually went into the house of an estranged wife and fryed her cat in the microwave. And these folks are still practicing law.
Lack of competence, lack of diligence, charging unreasonable fees, failing to communicate and makinging misrepresentations to clients. Powerful resume.
Get her up on the dias with the two ruths and ron and the council meetings will look like the bar scene from Star Wars.
St. Justin says
Now THAT’S funny! (and quite articulate………..)
It kind of makes me want to pull out my old VHS tapes…….
Van Huesen says
Kreamer was out at the intersection of Mt. Royal and Rt. 22 waving to traffic for about 3 hours this morning. She’s hitting the campaign hard. I heard lots of horns beeping and a few thumbs up going her way.
Dave Yensan says
Van; Are you positive that those were thumbs in the air?
HIRAM LODGEPOLE says
just from what i see…Ms.Kreamer ought to stop spreading shit on her dad’s name…and while she’s at it, scrap some of it off your shoes, outside Aberdeen town limits…enough is enough…volunteer at the library, if you’re bored…
gal…some of us think..maybe you’ll learn a lesson…obviously your ego hasn’t…
sad but true…
Marley says
She obviously has all the skills to be a Mayor. Drive past her house and look at the beautiful landscaping and high level of maintenance and you will have an idea of her ability to take care of details.
