From the HCC sports desk:
DUNDALK, Md.—Sophomore Melissa Warczynski (Street, Md./North Harford) scored four goals, but Harford couldn’t compete with the offensive output of No. 3 CCBC-Catonsville, as it fell in the 2010 season-opener, 18-6, on Tuesday night at CCBC-Dundalk. The game was relocated to Dundalk’s turf field due to unplayable field conditions as a result of the February snowstorms which blanketed Baltimore.
Freshman Jaclyn Hall (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) was the only other goal-scorer for the Fighting Owls (0-1) with two scores on the night, while freshman Kaitlyn Hall (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) tallied two assists and freshman Yuliya Kolosey (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) contributed one.
The Cardinals (1-0) built a six-goal advantage, 10-4, by halftime, and didn’t let up in the second stanza, outscoring the Owls 8-2 on the way to the 18-6 victory. Freshman Stephanie Saul (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) went the distance in goal for Harford with six saves on 28 shots faced, while Catonsville totaled seven saves from the Owls’ 13 shots.
The Fighting Owls return to action next Wednesday, Mar. 10 when they host the UMBC club team for a scrimmage at 7:00 p.m. before welcoming No. 4 Nassau for their home-opener on Friday, Mar. 12 at 7:00 p.m.
