From Harford Community College:
The Board of Trustees of Harford Community College announces that Dr. Dennis Golladay has been selected as President of Harford Community College. Harford Community College was assisted in conducting this search by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT).
Board of Trustees Chair Brad Stover stated, “I am pleased to announce Dr. Golladay’s selection as Harford Community College’s next President. Dr. Golladay’s extensive experience and commitment to community college education will make him a strong asset to Harford Community College.”
The Board’s selection caps a seven-month national process that began with local focus groups and a 13-member Search Committee, composed of a broad range of representatives. The national search attracted more than 55 applicants and included a rich and competitive pool of candidates that included six presidents/chancellors and thirteen vice presidents from throughout the state, region and entire country.
Dr. Golladay, Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges, reports directly to the Chancellor of SUNY and is responsible for the oversight and coordination of relations with SUNY’s 30 community colleges and their related organizations. He serves as staff liaison to the Board of Trustees Committee on Community Colleges and as a liaison to the State University Construction Fund and represents the Chancellor at community college meetings. Prior to becoming Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges at SUNY, Dr. Golladay served as sixth president of Cayuga County Community College, assuming the post in July 1996 following 24 years’ experience in a community college setting. Upon his departure, he was honored with the title of President Emeritus. A native of Virginia, Dr. Golladay earned his B.S. degree in social science and English from Madison College and his master’s and doctorate in American History from the University of Virginia. In 1985, he was a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Seminar Fellow at Johns Hopkins University where he participated in a postgraduate seminar on British Colonial North America. He was also an NEH Summer Fellow in 1981 at the University of Virginia. Dr. Golladay is married to Dr. Mamie Howard Golladay, president of Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake, New York.
Dr. Dennis Golladay will assume the post on August 1, 2010. In accepting the appointment, Dr. Golladay stated, “I am elated — and honored — to have been chosen by the Board of Trustees of Harford Community College to serve as the College’s next president. Long an admirer of the College, I look forward to my new duties there and to working with the Board, faculty, staff, and community leaders to help shape the bright future of the College and Harford County.”
Retiring President Dr. James F. LaCalle has agreed to remain as President of Harford Community College for an additional month, through July 31, 2010.
