From the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Baltimore:
U.S. District Judge Benson E. Legg sentenced Narvel Williams, age 21, of Edgewood, Maryland, today to 12 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Judge Legg enhanced Williams’ sentence upon finding that he is a career offender based on two previous convictions for a violent crime and illegal drugs.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Theresa R. Stoop of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – Baltimore Field Division; Harford County State’s Attorney Joseph I. Cassilly; Harford County Sheriff L. Jesse Bane and Chief Randy Rudy of the Aberdeen Police Department.
According to Williams’ plea agreement, on August 21, 2008, Harford County Sheriff officers and ATF agents overheard Williams offer to sell an individual crack cocaine for $125 and two handguns for $250 each. On August 26, Williams arranged to meet the individual at a store parking lot in Edgewood, Maryland to sell the crack cocaine. Officers saw Williams exit his car and stand nearby. Officers approached Williams and recovered 3.5 grams of cocaine base from the sidewalk where Williams was standing. Williams was arrested. Officers also recovered additional cocaine from the car. The total weight of cocaine base recovered was approximately one half ounce.
Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant U.S. Attorney Cheryl L. Crumpton, who prosecuted the case.
