Authorities responded to a hazardous materials spill on Technology Drive in Aberdeen on Wednesday morning.
The chemical ammonia hydroxide was found to be leaking from a clean out cap left off the top of a tanker truck moving through the area, according to Clarence Ross, assistant chief with the Harford County Hazardous Materials Team. The spillage ceased when the truck stopped moving, and members of the Haz-Mat team secured the cap with assistance from the Aberdeen Fire Department.
A Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputy and an Aberdeen Police Department officer were exposed to vapors from the chemical and were transported to Harford Memorial Hospital as a precaution, Ross said.
The truck had been traveling from Philadelphia to Virginia. Route 22 between Beards Hill Road and Technology Drive was closed down for several hours, according to the Aberdeen Fire Department.
